1987 marked five years since Mattel introduced their “Masters of the Universe” franchise, and that same year saw the release of the movie adaptation starring Dolph Lundgren as He-Man. Fast forward nearly four decades, and another “Masters of the Universe” film is slated for 2026, with Nicholas Galitzine stepping into the role of the Power Sword of Grayskull’s wielder. However, it seems there’s a possibility that Lundgren might make an appearance in the reboot – hinted at by his cryptic comments during a recent interview.
During an interview with Men’s Journal about Hard-Cut Vodka, his homemade spirit, Lundgren delved into discussions regarding Masters of the Universe. When asked about potentially appearing in the forthcoming film, the alum of Rocky IV had this to say:
It’s a bit of a secret, but I can’t say much. But yeah, maybe I’ll get involved somehow. We’ll see.

In a recent statement, the principal actor from the Masters of the Universe series indicates that the upcoming reboot will deviate significantly from the original He-Man show. A fresh rumor hints at the potential changes in the new adaptation.
The upcoming Masters of the Universe unveils additional intriguing cast members; however, I’m still eager to discover how a well-loved He-Man character will be portrayed in this reboot.
Or:
The latest news from Masters of the Universe includes some exciting new cast announcements; yet, I can’t wait to find out how a popular He-Man character will be depicted in the remake.
It’s plausible that if Dolph Lundgren had known he wouldn’t be required for the Masters of the Universe reboot, he would have made it clear then and there that he won’t appear in it. However, considering that the filming for Masters of the Universe has wrapped up, there’s a chance that Lundgren might have filmed a cameo or even a more substantial role.
It’ll be a year more before the mystery is unveiled, yet Dolph Lundgren expresses satisfaction that the project was eventually launched, despite it serving as a reminder of his advancing years. In his own words, he said:
“We still have another year to wait until the mystery is resolved, but I’m happy that the reboot finally took flight, even if it makes me feel my age.
If the thought of a fresh He-Man film leaves me feeling like I’ve been around for ages, believe me, it’s not just the movie that makes me feel old! I was part of it all along! For at least 15 years, they’ve been trying to breathe new life into this classic tale, and I couldn’t be happier about it. The cast is impressive, the crew is top-notch. This isn’t just any movie; it’s a grand production by MGM/Amazon. I can’t help but feel they’re nailing it!
In the 1987 film, Dolph Lundgren shared screen time with Frank Langella, Courteney Cox, Barry Livingston, James Tolkan, Christina Pickles, Meg Foster, Chelsea Field, and Jon Cypher, among others. The movie’s ending hinted at a comeback for Langella’s character Skeletor, but due to the film’s unfavorable critical and financial reception, plans for sequels were abandoned. Moreover, the flop of Masters of the Universe was one factor that led to Cannon Films ceasing operations.
Speaking about the upcoming adaptation, Nicholas Galitzine will be joined on screen by Jared Leto, Camila Mendes, Alison Brie, and Idris Elba. Directed by Travis Knight and written by Chris Butler, Masters of the Universe is set to hit theaters on June 5, 2026. In the meantime, fans can satisfy their appetite for Masters of the Universe content through Netflix, as they offer streaming access to newer shows like Masters of the Universe: Revelation, its sequel Revolution, and a separate CGI series titled He-Man and the Masters of the Universe.
