Following several years in the Early Access phase, SCUM has now been formally launched on Steam as version 1.0. This signifies additional updates are imminent, making it a fully-fledged game accessible for purchase and experimentation by all. It’s an engaging survival game with unique mechanics and a somewhat crude sense of humor that certainly catches the eye.
With console versions of survival games becoming increasingly popular these days, there’s been quite a buzz about whether SCUM will join them. Although PC has been the dominant platform for this genre so far, expanding to consoles could help broaden the game’s reach and make it more accessible to a wider audience – which is what we all aim for in the end.
Is SCUM Coming to Consoles?
Indeed, there were discussions about releasing SCUM console versions as early as 2023, when the game was still in Early Access. Initially, it was planned for release on PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series. However, developers may now be planning to only launch it on PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X/S.
The initial intention was to launch this video game on consoles by the end of this year, provided no unexpected issues arise. Given that the game has reached version 1.0, there’s a strong possibility we might see a console launch this year. Yet, it’s also possible that further delays could occur as the company is working hard to ensure the current release is stable and addressing any critical bugs they discover.
An announcement for consoles could be coming soon, but fans just have to be patient.
Will SCUM Come Out on Switch 2?
No official announcements have been made about the game as of now, but it’s suspected that Nintendo might find it too rough in style. However, remember that Grand Theft Auto eventually made its way onto the original Switch some years back, so there’s a chance that this game could also appear on their platform at some point.
As a devoted fan, I can’t help but imagine the thrill of playing SCUM on a handheld device, given its native controls would only enhance the gaming experience. However, as I write this, it’s still not an optimized experience on Steam Deck, due to the game’s lack of controller support at present. But here’s hoping that when SCUM eventually makes its way onto consoles, the developers will consider porting it to the rumored Switch 2, making our portable gaming dreams come true!
So far, that’s everything we know about SCUM coming to consoles.
