The movie adaptation of “Hana Khan Carries On” by Amazon MGM Studios and Kaling International has secured a director.
Fawzia Mirza, who’s known for her work on the Hulu series “Deli Boys,” will take on the director role for an upcoming film, as reported exclusively by The Hollywood Reporter. At this point, the movie’s cast has not been disclosed.
Sahar Jahani (known as Ramy) wrote the screenplay inspired by Uzma Jalaluddin’s 2021 novel with the same title. The movie revolves around Hana, a Chicago-based chef and owner of a family restaurant, who unknowingly starts a relationship on a secret dating app with Aydin. Unfortunately, his family’s culinary empire could potentially cause her business to close down.
Mindy Kaling and Jessica Kumai Scott produce for Kaling International.
Mirza served as a director during the initial season of Hulu’s comedy series “Deli Boys,” that debuted earlier this year. Her first foray into feature film directing, “The Queen of My Dreams,” had its premiere at the Toronto International Film Festival. Mirza was honored with the prestigious Directors Guild of Canada award for her work on this production. “The Queen of My Dreams,” which garnered five nominations from the Canadian Screen Academy Awards, will be screened in U.S. cinemas starting this Friday.
In addition, Mirza was recognized as a White House Champion of Change in Asian American Narrative in the year 2016 by the Obama administration.
Kaling is jointly responsible for creating and holds an executive producer role on the Netflix show “Running Point,” starring Kate Hudson, which has been renewed for a second season. Similarly, she co-created and oversees production for both the Netflix series “Never Have I Ever” and HBO Max’s “The Sex Lives of College Girls.”
Or, more informally:
Kaling helped bring to life and is in charge as an executive producer for the Netflix show “Running Point,” starring Kate Hudson, that got a second season. She did the same for both the Netflix series “Never Have I Ever” and HBO Max’s “The Sex Lives of College Girls.
Jahani received a Peabody Award for her contributions to the initial season of the Emmy-nominated comedy series Ramy on Hulu. She has also appeared in Life & Beth, 13 Reasons Why, and The Bold Type on television. Prior to this, Jahani transformed Jalaluddin’s first novel, Ayesha At Last, for Amy Pascal and Columbia Pictures. Currently, she is working on her own debut novel.
Kaling is managed by CAA, 3Arts, and Ziffen Law. On the other hand, Mirza is represented by IAG, Alexander Stegmaier, and Granderson Des Rochers. Similarly, Jahani is also under IAG’s management along with Tantrum and Morris Yorn.
