‘Mindhunter’ May Return as Three Movies, Star Holt McCallany Reveals

There is hope, Mindhunter fans.

As a devoted fan, I’m thrilled to share that Holt McCallany, who graced our screens with his captivating performance in two seasons of the Netflix hit alongside Jonathan Groff, has hinted at the tantalizing prospect of a revival. In an exclusive interview with CBR, he revealed that discussions about the series making a comeback have been underway, and it’s potentially taking shape as a trilogy of films. The mastermind behind the show, David Fincher, has been part of these conversations, adding to the excitement for fans like me!

Recently, I met with David Fincher in his office, and he mentioned that there might be a possibility of it being divided into three two-hour films, although I believe it’s just a potential scenario,” shared the actor from Waterfront. “I am aware that some writers are currently working on scripts, but remember, David needs to be satisfied with the final product.

He mentioned, ‘I’ve just finished a script where he graciously provided feedback. We’ve been revising the script together for about two and a half years… He’s incredibly detail-oriented, which is why I believe he’s one of the top directors in Hollywood.’ The lead actor from The Iron Claw expressed this, then continued, ‘He offered me a glimmer of hope during our meeting, but for that to turn into reality, everything would need to fall perfectly into place.’

The series “Mindhunter,” which initially streamed on Netflix in 2017 and later in 2019, centered around characters Bill (McCallany) and Holden (Groff) as they delved into the inner workings of serial killers. Unfortunately, Netflix opted not to continue the show due to its high production expenses. As Fincher explained in 2023, “The series is quite costly, and from Netflix’s perspective, it didn’t draw a large enough audience to warrant such significant investments for a third season.

However, six years later, the fans and its passionate fanbase have continued to ask for more.

In 2021, Groff had expressed to The Hollywood Reporter that he would return for the project and shared his admiration for working with Fincher. He stated, “For me, Mindhunter is Fincher. The entire experience was an honor and privilege to work alongside him. It was the primary attraction for me.” Groff added, “As soon as he indicates he wants to do another one, I’ll be ready in a flash. However, I trust his vision and instincts, so I always leave it up to him.
