Jimmy Kimmel faced embarrassment on his own talk show when he attempted to provoke Arnold Schwarzenegger into criticizing President Donald Trump.
This week is one Arnold Schwarzenegger won’t forget easily. It’s neither about his latest movie nor the Netflix series FUBAR. Instead, he gave a remarkable political performance, not once but twice, on two popular Disney talk shows. First, he skillfully handled Jimmy Kimmel, and later, he reinforced his stance on The View.

In both situations, the hosts seemed to be trying to provoke Schwarzenegger into criticizing President Trump. However, they received something unexpected – a calm appeal for unity, admiration for the U.S. system, and an unshakeable conviction that America remains the best country in the world.
The Kimmel Setup
On “Jimmy Kimmel Live”, Arnold Schwarzenegger was asked for his thoughts on President Trump’s recent legal warning regarding withholding federal education funds due to California’s contentious school policies. Jimmy Kimmel posed the question in a manner that suggested a mutual dislike for the 45th president.
As a movie buff, I’d say, “Given my understanding of dealing with formidable opponents, if I were faced with Donald Trump threatening to cut off federal funding for our students, our schools, and even those with disabilities, I’d strategize a plan that ensures the welfare of all. This involves rallying support from like-minded individuals, using media platforms wisely, and mobilizing resources to create an impactful counterargument.
Kimmel mentioned an unrealistic proposal made by Governor Gavin Newsom – suggesting that California might stop paying its federal taxes as a form of protest. However, Schwarzenegger showed no interest in entertaining this idea.

He commented, “It appears simple, doesn’t it?” He added, however, “It may seem easy, but in reality, it doesn’t work out that way. You see, every person in California pays multiple taxes: state tax, local tax, and federal tax. So how can you prevent them from doing so? And if the IRS comes after you… just to clarify, I’m speaking hypothetically here—this is all a discussion. This is a debate between the left and the right, with each side taking turns attacking the other.
Rather than jumping into the fray, Schwarzenegger changed the direction of the discussion, expressing thoughts that resonate with many Americans.
In essence, it would be more beneficial for them to collaborate instead of continually blaming one another. It’s crucial they cooperate to tackle this issue, as that’s what the American public is hoping for.” The crowd in Kimmel’s audience erupted into applause at this point.
Kimmel Tries Again—Gets Shut Down Again
Kimmel, perhaps surprised at the lack of anti-Trump fire, tried once more.
It appears that our president isn’t keen on resolving this issue,” he commented, again attempting to divert the discussion away from Trump. “Instead, he seems to be intent on causing issues within our own nation.

But Schwarzenegger wasn’t interested in blaming one side.
People often express concern to me, “Wow, things in America seem chaotic now!” To which I respond, “Take a deep breath.” I arrived here in 1968, during a time that was truly tumultuous. Martin Luther King Jr. and Robert Kennedy were both assassinated. There were riots everywhere due to the Vietnam War. The Democratic convention in Chicago was attacked. Then came Watergate. And it continued from there.
He then continued uninterrupted.
As a devoted movie enthusiast, I firmly believe that our nation, just like the hero in a classic film, will triumphantly overcome this challenge. Rest assured, the solution will be found. And speaking of iconic cities, there’s no denying Los Angeles’ charm – it’s always been an exciting destination to visit. I take great pride in this vibrant city. The essential ingredient here is collaboration: the federal government, state, and local communities must unite to tackle these issues head-on.

And then, Schwarzenegger delivered a message rarely heard on late-night TV.
Allow me to share with all of you gathered here, I frequently travel globally and recently returned from Europe. Today, much like 50 years ago, individuals approach me and ask for assistance in reaching America. This happens because it’s widely regarded as the best nation on earth. It continues to be the most exceptional country, regardless of who is governing it… people may change, but this sentiment remains constant.

And if that wasn’t patriotic enough, he closed with heartfelt gratitude.
I’m eagerly anticipating the 250th anniversary of America, and I can hardly wait to express my gratitude once more, America, for welcoming me into your lands and demonstrating such immense kindness. All that I’ve achieved in life is owed to you. That’s the essence.
And I must say, you… um… found yourself in Europe at some point, didn’t you?
Not a One-Off: The View Gets the Same Treatment
A few short days passed, and Schwarzenegger graced the set of The View. The hosts attempted to steer his views towards a unified stance on immigration, ICE, and border policies. However, much like before, he refused to conform to their ideological expectations.

In the words of the former California governor, who himself was an immigrant from Austria, “When you visit America, you’re a guest, so it’s important to act as one.” This means avoiding actions that might be considered inappropriate or illegal.
He emphasized legal immigration and civic duty.
As an immigrant, it’s important that you contribute to the U.S. and repay its kindness by getting involved in your local community and making it a better place for everyone.

Pressed further by Whoopi Goldberg and Sunny Hostin, he stayed consistent.
The current situation arises due to the lack of immigration reform. It’s essential for Democrats and Republicans to collaborate… If they prefer to remain party loyalists, adhere rigidly to their ideologies, then progress may not materialize.
Final Thoughts
For a week straight, Arnold Schwarzenegger – an immigrant, Republican governor, and devoted American – chose not to participate in political mud-slinging on two of the most liberal TV talk shows. Instead, he offered a balanced, logical, and patriotic speech that appealed to common sense rather than extreme ideologies, reaching far beyond the confines of the studio audience. This action served as a reminder to viewers that America’s true power lies not in its politicians but in its people, its values, and its resilience.

Instead of securing the catchy quotes they desired, Kimmel and Goldberg delivered something far more valuable to the American public – the truth.
