Another Avenger Bites the Dust?! You Won’t Believe Who!

In the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU), it’s rumored that one of the original six Avengers will have a grand farewell, with their character meeting an end before Phase 6 concludes. These six heroes, who have been instrumental in establishing the franchise since its inception 17 years ago, were the foundation of Earth’s Mightiest Heroes. With two of them already deceased, it seems that the team may not remain intact for much longer.

It appears that Marvel Studios is reportedly preparing a fitting farewell or demise for Chris Hemsworth’s character Thor in an upcoming Avengers film. Since making his debut as one of Marvel Studios’ primary heroes in 2010, Hemsworth has starred in close to a dozen movies as the mighty Thor, but it seems that his tenure with the MCU could be drawing to a close.

As reported by insider Alex Perez (via The Cosmic Circus), Marvel is considering a significant and dignified ending for Thor in one of the upcoming Avengers films. Yet, it’s important to note that this doesn’t necessarily imply that Thor will not reappear in the MCU at some point.

Remember, when I mentioned they intended to provide Thor with a grand, fitting farewell in an Avengers film, it doesn’t necessarily mean Thor won’t return someday. It’s important we don’t forget that there’s still a role for Thor at the end of this saga.

As a dedicated movie enthusiast, I find myself in awe of the fact that Thor is among the original four Avengers who are still breathing life into the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU). The others include the Hulk, portrayed by Mark Ruffalo, Captain America, embodied by Steve Rogers, and Hawkeye, brought to life by Jeremy Renner. Sadly, Natasha Romanoff, or Black Widow as we know her, met a tragic end in ‘Avengers: Endgame’, followed closely by the untimely demise of Robert Downey Jr.’s Iron Man.

So far, Hemsworth has made a total of 13 appearances in the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU), with Thor being his character in most of these. These appearances include leading roles in the upcoming film “Avengers: Doomsday” in 2026, as well as the first four Avengers films, all four Thor movies, a scene during the credits of Doctor Strange, several episodes of What If…?, a cameo in Deadpool & Wolverine, and an uncredited voice role in Season 1 of Loki. In the future, fans can expect to see Hemsworth reprise his role as Thor in “Avengers: Doomsday”.

What Will Happen to Thor in the MCU?

It’s plausible that directors Joe and Anthony Russo might choose to kill off Thor, the God of Thunder, in one of the upcoming Avengers movies. While Chris Hemsworth has not openly stated his intention to depart from the series, some fans speculate that a recent tribute video he shared could be a farewell gesture for the character, hinting at Thor’s possible demise in the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU).

Over the past 15 years, being the actor with the most frequent roles might also make him a strong contender for the character who meets an untimely end.

It’s worth noting that this might not mean Chris Hemsworth won’t appear in another Thor film, contrary to some rumors. If a sequel is indeed on the horizon, following the conclusion of the Multiverse Saga, it might part ways with Taika Waititi as director but keep Cate Blanchett reprising her role as Hela. This could be reminiscent of Scarlett Johansson’s farewell in _Black Widow_, post-Avengers: Endgame.

The rumor further suggests that Thor could play a significant role in upcoming Avengers films. Speculation even points towards Marvel’s intention to introduce the Thor Corps, as seen in the comics, onto the silver screen.

It’s also worth noting that Hemsworth insists on a distinctive solo movie, suggesting a significantly altered version of his character compared to the one portrayed in Thor: Love and Thunder (2022). Although details about his storyline are being kept secret during filming for the upcoming two Avengers films, it wouldn’t be surprising if he received the grand farewell hinted at in rumors, allowing him one final shining moment within the Marvel Cinematic Universe.
