Five films will be supported through the Female Filmmakers Program this year, chosen by the Uniqa See Future Foundation in collaboration with the Sarajevo Film Festival and Slano Film Days.
2024 saw the introduction of an initiative focusing on boosting and inspiring female directors from the six Southeastern European nations where Uniqa Insurance Group is active: Bosnia and Herzegovina, Croatia, Serbia, Montenegro, Romania, and Bulgaria. The main objective of this program is to bolster women’s influence in the regional film industry by providing financial aid, mentorship, and chances for professional advancement.
The chosen projects stood out for their “vibrant creative concept, unique flair, and dedication to crafting captivating narratives,” as stated by the organizers. They will be granted individualized financial and career assistance, aiding them in progressing through production and post-production phases.
According to Mirsad Purivatra, the director of Slano Film Days, by supporting these creative endeavors, we’re playing a significant role in crafting a more diverse and vibrant cinematic landscape for our region.
As a gamer, I’d rephrase it like this: “Hey there! I, as the director of the Sarajevo Film Festival, am thrilled to share that we’re taking strategic action to tackle some long-standing issues in film funding. This action will specifically boost projects primarily crafted by female creators. Our festival has always been a champion for gender equality in cinema, and I’m proud that we’re making real progress towards this goal with such a tangible and impactful initiative.
