Why Mark Cuban Turned Down Offer to Submit to Be Kamala Harris’ Running Mate in 2024 Presidential Campaign

Mark Cuban explains the reasons behind his decision to decline the opportunity to be considered as Kamala Harris’ vice-presidential candidate in the 2024 presidential election.

The celebrity from Shark Tank was a guest on the Bulwark podcast, during which host Tim Miller asked him, “I’ve heard from someone I trust that they requested VP vetting documents from you, and you replied, ‘The list would be too long.’ Is this accurate?

Cuban openly acknowledged the whispers, yet disclosed an additional factor that led him to decline the opportunity to become Harris’ running mate.

Cuban validated the gossip, but unveiled a secondary motive behind his decision not to join Harris’ ticket as vice president.

Cuban verified the speculations, yet disclosed an additional explanation for his choice not to stand alongside Harris as her vice presidential candidate.

The billionaire, an ardent supporter of Harris, admitted he wouldn’t excel as her deputy. He explained that it wouldn’t be beneficial if he often contradicted Kamala (in a president role) by saying ‘No, that’s a bad idea.’ Furthermore, he confessed he’s not particularly skilled at the traditional politicking acts like handshaking and baby-kissing.

Ultimately, Harris chose Minnesota Governor Tim Walz as her vice president. Unfortunately for them, Donald Trump managed to defeat Harris in the 2024 presidential election, allowing him to secure another term in the White House. Miller then questioned Cuban about whether the outcome might have been different if he had been Harris’s running mate instead of Walz.

Clearly, things would have unfolded differently if we had been in the same situation. My character and experiences are distinct from Tim’s; I tend to be more straightforward, less diplomatic. I’m not a politician, so our approaches would have differed significantly. However, it wouldn’t have been pleasant – she likely would have dismissed me on the spot,” he chuckled in response.

Miller stated that Cuban would have outperformed the current situation with Trump, given the president’s second term has been marked by numerous criticisms on issues such as immigration, economy, tariffs, international conflicts and more. In response, the former Dallas Mavericks owner expressed his belief that he had initially thought Harris would emerge victorious.
