‘A Man on the Inside’ Renewed for Second Season at Netflix

As a long-time fan of Ted Danson and Mike Schur’s brilliant comedy series, I couldn’t be more excited about the news that A Man on the Inside is coming back for a second season! I remember watching Ted Danson in Cheers and Becker back in the day, and it’s fantastic to see him still delivering top-notch performances. The first season was a delightful blend of humor, heart, and suspense, and I can’t wait to see where they take Charles’ character next.

Ted Danson is going back on the case for Netflix.

The live broadcaster has commissioned another round of episodes for “A Man on the Inside“, a comedy show where Danson plays Charles, a bereaved individual who, in the initial season, took up employment at a detective agency (run by Lilah Richcreek Estrada) to unravel thefts within a retirement community. The series is loosely based on the Academy Award-nominated documentary “The Mole Agent“.

The revival takes place a few weeks following the November 21 debut of “A Man on the Inside” and immediately after Danson’s Golden Globe nomination for his acting. This series, developed by Mike Schur (known for “The Good Place” and “Parks and Recreation”) and produced by Universal Television, was also recognized as one of the American Film Institute’s outstanding TV shows for the year.

We’re excited to bring back another season of ‘A Man on the Inside’, featuring the promising new talent, Ted Danson. As stated in a release, this project is made possible by our partners at Netflix and Universal TV, as well as an exceptional group of writers, actors, and crew. There’s one individual who stands out among them all – young up-and-comer Ted Danson – he can be quite challenging to work with!

Schur confided to The Hollywood Reporter that he and his team had already begun brainstorming concepts for a second season prior to the completion of the first, pointing out that while Charles’ case has been resolved, “at the end of the season, you have a 76-year-old man with a renewed lease on life, a fresh sense of purpose, and a budding career as an undercover detective. … This provides numerous foundations for future seasons.

I’ve informed Netflix that I’m ready to continue writing seasons for their show featuring Ted Danson as an undercover detective indefinitely, provided they keep compensating me. I’m willing to formally commit to this role until the year 2050, given your approval.

I’m thrilled to share that an array of talented actors graced the screen in the first season of this show I adore. Among them were Mary Elizabeth Ellis, Stephanie Beatriz, Stephen McKinley Henderson, Sally Struthers, Margaret Avery, John Getz, Susan Ruttan, Lori Tan Chinn, Clyde Kusatsu, Marc Evan Jackson, Jama Williamson, Wyatt Yang, Deuce Basco, Lincoln Lambert, and Kerry O’Malley. Each brought their unique charm to the series, making it even more captivating!

Tracey Pakosta, vice president of comedy series at Netflix, commented that ‘A Man on the Inside‘ struck a perfect balance between humor, authenticity, and emotional depth, appealing to viewers of all ages. We’re thrilled to carry on this tale alongside Mike, Ted, Universal Television, and the entire crew,” she said.

Erin Underhill, president of Universal TV, commented, “A Man on the Inside is equally captivating, heartwarming, and amusing. The exceptional ensemble has made the first season an absolute joy to watch. We extend our gratitude to Mike, Ted, the entire team, and Netflix for providing us with more moments that make us laugh, cry, and want to reach out to our loved ones.

Schur executive, in collaboration with Morgan Sackett, is responsible for the creation of “A Man on the Inside” under his Fremulon label. Additionally, 3 Arts Entertainment’s David Miner, Micromundo Producciones’ Maite Alberdi and Marcela Santibañez, and Motto Pictures’ Julie Goldman and Christopher Clements are also involved in the production process.
