Abhay Deol opens up about facing ‘violence’ in past relationships; reveals marriage plans: ‘Rather be single and lonely than…’

Actor Abhay Deol, well-known for his powerful roles in films like Dev D and Zindagi Na Milegi Dobara, has held viewers spellbound for more than a decade. Although he tends to guard his personal affairs closely, he’s lately disclosed details about his past relationships, offering glimpses into periods marked by emotional distress and physical violence. Moreover, he openly expressed his opinions on marriage, indicating a strong inclination towards solitude over enduring an unfulfilling relationship.

In a conversation with Humans of Bombay, the actor articulated his viewpoint about love and relationships, highlighting the organic progression of emotions. He conveyed that throughout life, feelings can develop freely, without bias, where some might find lasting partners, others may experiment with various connections, while some opt for solitude to understand themselves better.

Abhay Deol openly expressed his thoughts about marriage, stating that it doesn’t feel like a natural aspect of life for him. He prefers being unattached over being in an unhappy relationship and candidly declared, “I’d choose solitude and loneliness over a partnership that brings misery.” Looking back at his past relationships, he admitted to having both rewarding and difficult experiences.

In the past, the actor from Zindagi Na Milegi Dobara has shared that he’s encountered toxicity in some of his relationships. He stated, “I don’t condone violence, and I’ve found myself in some turbulent relationships. Unfortunately, they’ve occasionally escalated into violence, more emotional than physical.” He underscored that such situations are detrimental to both parties and considered them as valuable learning opportunities, rather than assigning blame.

In the course of my personal history, I’ve pondered over past romantic encounters, and I can’t help but shed light on one relationship where I found myself involved with someone who, unbeknownst to me at the time, exhibited narcissistic traits. Looking back, I now understand that this person was manipulative and emotionally detached.

However, it wasn’t all negative; there were moments of satisfaction and growth within these relationships. At times, I confess, I made mistakes, but in other instances, I was fortunate enough to receive unwavering support from my partners.

Currently, actor Abhay Deol is preparing for his role in the upcoming film titled “Bun Tikki.” This movie will be directed by Faraz Arif Ansari. Notable actresses Shabana Azmi, Zeenat Aman, and Anjali Anand are also part of the cast. The production house behind this project is Stage 5 Productions, run by Manish Malhotra, with Jyoti Deshpande, Dinesh Malhotra, and Marijke Desouza serving as producers.
