AFM: ‘Narnia’ Producer Preps CGI Biblical Epic ‘In the Beginning’ (Exclusive)

As a seasoned gamer and story enthusiast with a penchant for immersive experiences, I must say the prospect of “In the Beginning” has piqued my interest significantly. With a background in diverse genres, from the fantastical realms of Narnia to the gritty urban landscapes of modern-day gaming, I am always on the lookout for fresh, engaging narratives that transcend traditional boundaries.

As a devoted admirer, I’m thrilled to share that the visionary producer behind “The Chronicles of Narnia,” Cary Granat, is joining forces with director David L Cunningham (known for “The Seeker: The Dark Is Rising” and “Running for Grace”) and the brilliant visual effects artist Ed Jones, who won an Oscar for “Who Framed Roger Rabbit?” and worked on “Happy Feet,” to create a fresh, faith-based family action-adventure titled “In the Beginning“. This captivating project aims to retell the Biblical story of creation in a way that will surely engage audiences.

As a passionate enthusiast, I can’t help but share the excitement about an upcoming film titled “In the Beginning“. This groundbreaking production promises to utilize state-of-the-art motion capture technology and hybrid CGI visual effects to bring the tale of Genesis to life on the big screen. From the formation of the universe to the establishment of the Garden of Eden, this cinematic journey will be nothing short of an Imax spectacle.

Producers stated that ‘For countless people, [the creation story] serves as a blueprint for life’s beginnings, yet it has never been presented with the grandeur and impact of a blockbuster film.’ With In the Beginning, they aim to inspire audiences to return to cinemas. The production will also express themes of appreciation and unity.

The creators intend to merge the ancient biblical account of creation – shared by Judaism, Christianity, and Islam – with cutting-edge astronomical findings. This approach aims to remain true to religious scriptures while ensuring scientific authenticity.

David Garrett of Mister Smith Entertainment shared that they’ve chatted with the Pope twice about their project, yet they’ve also collaborated with leading astrophysicists from CERN to ensure the on-screen portrayal resembles what scientists believe the Big Bang might have appeared like. It’s important to note that it won’t be a depiction of God shaping landscapes such as trees and oceans.

On Tuesday, Mr. Smith showcased a 15-minute presentation of his movie to potential buyers from AFM in Las Vegas. Their role involves managing international sales, and they’re promoting this project as an engaging, visually stunning cinematic experience suitable for all ages (PG rating). They believe it will attract audiences beyond the existing faith-based community.

According to Garrett, it’s made to attract people from a wide range of faith backgrounds, including evangelical Christians, traditional Christians, and even individuals who do not identify as believers.

The genre of faith-based movies has now become widely popular, with blockbusters such as the Chronicles of Narnia series and independent successes like Soul Surfer (2011), Son of God (2014), and the God’s Not Dead movie franchise leading the way.

The creators of the “In the Beginning” movie have begun reaching out to religious communities such as the Vatican, World Evangelical Alliance, Youth With A Mission, and Our Daily Bread, in an effort to stir up interest and boost ticket sales.

Currently in pre-production, In the Beginning is scheduled for a December 2026 global launch.
