As a seasoned gamer and Marvel enthusiast with over two decades of experience under my belt, I must admit that the latest Deadpool & Wolverine installment has been quite a rollercoaster ride! The blend of extreme action, witty humor, and the occasional raunchiness is something this genre aficionado can’t resist.
As a die-hard fan, I can’t help but express my excitement about the R-rated team-up of Deadpool and Wolverine! This movie not only maintained the franchise’s signature blend of intense action and crude humor, but also established its connection with the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Shawn Levy skillfully orchestrated a superhero spectacle filled with jokes about drugs, sex, and more. However, there was one joke that didn’t make it past the final edit – a joke involving Mickey Mouse! Recently, we got a glimpse of what this joke entailed, and it seems Disney CEO Bob Iger played a part in its removal. The source claims that Iger had a hand in the decision-making process behind the scene.
As awards season approaches, Walt Disney Pictures is actively preparing to promote some of their highly anticipated 2024 film releases, and that includes our project (D&W). Consequently, the script for this project has been made available by Disney and Marvel Studios. In the script, a humorous yet inappropriate remark is introduced when Wade Wilson discovers Magneto’s demise, leading him to express his anger with an off-color comment.
Oh my goodness, it seems like we’re stretched thin already, and yet we can’t manage another X-Man? It feels like Disney is being quite frugal. The constant influx of Mickey Mouse content is making it hard for me to swallow!
I must admit, I’m not certain if I can ever shake off that mental image from my mind. (And truthfully, I imagine Ryan Reynolds and Shawn Levy were hoping for something like that.) Frankly, that’s quite an extraordinary claim, even by the standards of this franchise, which is remarkable in its own way. If it had been part of the movie, it might well have become one of Deadpool’s most memorable lines. Sadly, it simply didn’t make the cut.
Earlier this year, Ryan Reynolds and his team expressed they had considerable creative control. However, a source close to Reynolds recently told TMZ that Bob Iger inquired about a specific dialogue line. Yet, the source added that Iger didn’t force the issue. They also mentioned that Reynolds agreed to the request since it was only one line and Disney, being a family-friendly studio, had been accommodating with other creative choices for the movie.
