Ahead Of NBC’s Law And Order Event, Reid Scott Joins The List Of Stars Who Can’t Stop Raving About Mariska Hargitay: ‘She’s A Quarterback’

2025 will see an exciting TV schedule for fans of Dick Wolf’s expansive television world, as a two-part prime-time crossover event is planned between Season 24 of Law & Order and Season 26 of Law & Order: SVU. It’s been over two years since both series shared a multi-episode arc, making this crossover a much-anticipated event. Furthermore, the upcoming crossover will mark the first time Reid Scott’s Detective Vincent Riley and Mariska Hargitay‘s iconic character Captain Olivia Benson appear together. When TopMob had the chance to speak with Scott, he couldn’t help but heap praises on Hargitay.

I had a chat with Reid Scott not too long ago about Riley’s significant reaction in a recent episode, which can now be watched by subscribing to Peacock. Moreover, Scott discussed his appreciation for Law & Order opting for “open-ended” conclusions in Season 24. However, he finds nothing unfulfilling about the upcoming crossover on April 17, as he described it. He stated:

I thoroughly enjoyed it! Admittedly, I was a bit apprehensive since this was my first crossover experience, given its distinctive blend with Law & Order and the Dick Wolf universe. I found myself wondering, “What an exciting turn of events to have them visit our realm for a brief moment!” Needless to say, it was a delightful experience for me. Not only did it provide a fresh boost of energy due to working with new faces, but I also relished the opportunity to delve into such an intriguing storyline. This case is quite substantial, making the episode equally significant.

Mariska Hargitay made an appearance on Law & Order in Season 24, which was more like a brief guest spot rather than Benson being fully integrated into the case from beginning to end. However, this time around, things will be different. In episodes titled “Play With Fire Part 1” and “Play With Fire Part 2,” Benson is set to become an integral part of the Law & Order storyline, following a cryptic phone call and a gruesome murder.

As expected, the SVU portion of the crossover features crimes related to sexual misconduct. To sum up, these upcoming episodes promise a somber tone, but Reid Scott found enjoyment during filming. He further stated that he had a great time while shooting them.

For a moment, I’ll step aside – it was simply delightful spending time with Mariska. She’s an unpredictable whirlwind, and our laughter never seemed to stop, even during breaks. Her energy is infectious, and I found myself feeling truly inspired. I thought, “Wow, this is how you become someone like her.” She possesses an amazing work ethic, boundless energy, and she’s undeniably a leader. She’s the quarterback, and I eagerly look forward to more crossover opportunities. Hopefully, they’ll let me join the SVU world someday; it would be exciting to visit there. But overall, it was an extraordinary blend of talents, truly one-of-a-kind. I thoroughly enjoyed it.

Working alongside Mariska Hargitay is consistently rewarding, as it seems everyone agrees that it’s an exceptional experience. Ryan Buggle, who portrays Benson’s son on SVU, shared with TopMob that his most valuable lesson from Hargitay was to always perform from the heart and act only because of one’s love for the craft. Donna Lynne Champlin, a season 26 guest star whose episode deviated from the usual SVU format, told me that the main actress is evidently adored and held in high regard on set.

Ice-T, currently Mariska Hargitay’s longest-standing scene partner, expressed his belief that the show will continue for as long as Mariska desires, considering it “her show.” Christopher Meloni, enthused from the start by her acting talent, shared on The Kelly Clarkson Show that he felt fortunate to be cast alongside Hargitay on SVU, acknowledging he knew he had struck gold when paired with her.

In my opinion, it’s truly astounding, even for those who have personally known her, just how captivating Mariska Hargitay’s portrayal of Detective Olivia Benson on SVU is! It seems that celebrities themselves are drawn to the allure of playing a deceased character on this show, and I can see why. Her performance has even left Olympians awestruck in Paris, and Taylor Swift paid homage by naming one of her cats “Olivia.” Indeed, it’s a testament to Hargitay’s powerful acting skills that she leaves such an indelible mark on the entertainment world.

To put it simply, it’s no secret that Reid Scott is among many who admire the leading actress. Although he was careful not to reveal too much about the storyline, he did hint at a specific moment that unites Riley and Benson.

The episode is simply outstanding. It delves into various aspects. To avoid ruining the surprise, I’ll only mention that there’s a scene where Mariska and I uncover a corpse, as every episode features one, and this particular body was unlike anything I had encountered in my two years working on Law & Order. Trust me, it was quite remarkable, and I believe it will make for one of our most visually stunning episodes ever. The visuals are breathtaking, and the story is both beautiful and critical. It’s a significant case that carries great importance.

The anticipation is almost at its end for the crossover episode of Law & Order/SVU, but I suspect that Riley and Benson may not share as many lighthearted moments as Reid Scott and Mariska Hargitay did during takes. In the meantime, take a look at the promo for this two-part event:
