The universe of the hit TV series “American Horror Story” has featured spine-tingling performances by numerous gifted actors from Hollywood, one of whom is the exceptional Jessica Lange. Joining Ryan Murphy’s AHS during its inaugural season, she played Constance Langdon, a woman residing next to the infamous “Murder House.” Following this, she portrayed Sister Jude and Fiona Goode in “Asylum” and “Coven,” respectively, and Elsa Mars in “Freak Show.” Lange reappeared as Constance Langdon for the 2018 installment, “Apocalypse,” which marked her final appearance in the horror anthology. However, with Murphy hinting at bringing back some of the series’ favorite stars for its upcoming thirteenth season, it appears that Lange will not be returning this time around.
At the debut of her most recent film, “Long Day’s Journey Into Night,” at the Glasgow Film Festival, Lange categorically ruled out any prospect of rejoining the cast of “American Horror Story.
I haven’t engaged in that activity for over a decade now, so I can assure you, I won’t be doing it this time.
Over the course of many years, Lange kicked off her remarkable acting journey with her 1976 debut in ‘King Kong’. This was followed by a celebrated film career, which included winning Oscars for ‘Tootsie’ and ‘Blue Sky’. In 2011, she embarked on her stint in ‘AHS’, receiving two Primetime Emmys for the first and third seasons. Lange’s collaborations with Murphy stretch beyond the ‘AHS’ realm. Notably, she played Joan Crawford in ‘Feud: Bette and Joan’, garnering praise and an Emmy nomination for Outstanding Lead Actress in a Limited Series or Movie. She also appeared in ‘The Politician’ and ‘Feud: Capote vs. The Swans’ the previous year.
‘AHS’: Lange Is Out, But Other Fan Favorites May Return
Although Lange choosing not to revisit American Horror Story might be disappointing for long-term fans, there remains hope that some beloved characters may make an appearance. Murphy has hinted at discussions with Evan Peters and Sarah Paulson (who have been part of the show since its debut) about reprising their roles; he also seems keen on bringing Angela Bassett back to the series.
Currently, I’m thrilled to learn that Sarah Paulson is showing interest in it once more. Likewise, if Evan Peters fits the role well, I’d be equally excited about his involvement. There are numerous individuals I’d love to work with again on that series, such as Angela Bassett and others. Overall, it’s a joyful experience. This is what he expressed in the past.
Previously, Paulson mentioned on Good Morning America that there’s a considerable possibility of her comeback, and this is something she desires more than any other opportunity.
In the newest production from Lange, titled “Long Day’s Journey Into Night,” we find a reimagining of Eugene O’Neill’s play, focusing on a single day in the life of the Tyrone family. Lange takes on the role of Mary Tyrone, who battles with an addiction to morphine. Notably, Lange had previously brought Mary to life on stage, winning her a Tony Award for Best Leading Actress in a Play in 2016. The film is helmed by Jonathan Kent and features Ed Harris, Ben Foster, and Colin Morgan alongside Lange.
If you’re keen on diving back into the chilling world of Ryan Murphy’s American Horror Story, you’ll be delighted to know that all twelve seasons are waiting for you on Hulu, ready to stream whenever you feel like revisiting Lange’s masterful journey!
