As a die-hard fan of the dynamic duo Akshay Kumar and Ajay Devgn, I find their recent conversation at the Hindustan Times Leadership Summit 2024 absolutely captivating! Their shared wisdom about the intricacies of Bollywood and the film industry as a whole has only fueled my admiration for them.
In the middle of intense discussions about escalating entourage expenses and stars not receiving their full compensation, the actors from Singham Again, Akshay Kumar and Ajay Devgn, have recently voiced their opinions. Ajay Devgn highlighted that Bollywood seems less united compared to the South Indian film industry, while both he and Kumar also disclosed that they don’t ask for payment if a movie flops or doesn’t make money. They further mentioned that most actors set their fees based on the anticipated revenue recovery of the project.
During the Hindustan Times Leadership Summit 2024, Akshay Kumar and Ajay Devgn debated about how actor salaries are affected by the increased costs associated with movie production budgets.
Akshay admitted that often, actors don’t get paid, whereas Ajay explained that the payment depends on the specifics of the script, movie, or project.
Akshay agreed with Ajay’s perspective, stating that nowadays, many performers choose profit-sharing deals over initial payment. He pointed out that in this type of contract, actors get a portion of the profits when the movie does well but receive nothing if it flops, which means they shoulder some of the financial risk alongside producers.
In addition to his performances as the Sarfira actor, he also emphasized that sometimes there’s no profit to be split among them, leading to a situation where they have to waive their wages completely. He linked this selflessness to their deep-rooted love and dedication towards cinema.
At the summit, Devgn pointed out the absence of fellowship within Bollywood compared to the solidarity observed in the Southern movie industries. In response to a query regarding the discrepancies, Ajay noted that unity among Bollywood professionals is often challenging.
Kumar concurred, recognizing the fragmented nature of the industry and wanting to hear Ajay’s thoughts. Ajay reinforced his viewpoint, highlighting that while box office success relies on numerous elements, he appreciates the solidarity shown by the South film industry towards its artists, a quality he believes is missing in Bollywood.
To be clear, these titans of Bollywood – myself, Akshay, SRK, Salman, and Aamir – maintain an admirable bond of camaraderie and respect for one another.
In the course of the meeting, it came to light that Ajay Devgn is at present engaged in directing his upcoming venture, where Akshay Kumar will also star.
He pointed out that even though the announcement was scheduled for a future time, the occasion presented an ideal stage for disseminating the information. Akshay conveyed his enthusiasm, noting that working under Ajay’s direction would be an outstanding opportunity.
