By using natural and easy-to-read language, I hope this version is helpful!
After the thrilling three-episode comeback of Reacher in the 2025 TV lineup, its fourth episode provided plenty of intriguing backstory. Entitled “Dominique,” this episode delved into the history of a significant character from Reacher’s past – Dominique Kohl, his former associate. This installment unveiled the emotional trigger that drives our protagonist in Season 3’s main plot. It was a pivotal episode, and Mariah Robinson’s portrayal of Kohl, as Alan Ritchson put it, “rescued the entire season.
As a passionate movie enthusiast, allow me to shed some light: Dominique Kohl plays an integral role in this season’s Reacher narrative. In a heart-wrenching flashback episode, we discover they were partners on a mission aimed at dismantling Xavier Quinn. When they believe they have him cornered, Reacher sends Kohl alone to apprehend him, leading to her untimely demise. This tragic event sets the stage for Alan Ritchson’s character to seek vengeance, a fact made evident through his gripping performance and Robinson’s captivating portrayal of Dominique.
Explaining that point further, Ritchson told me:
That particular episode serves as the core and essence of this entire season. If you’re unclear about why the protagonist feels so compelled to pursue the antagonist, who he describes as the worst person he’s ever encountered, then this is the event that sets his pursuit in motion. Moreover, it provides insight into Reacher’s principles and associates, showcasing for the first time a teammate whom he accepts as part of his circle.

Dominique Kohl plays a crucial role in Reacher’s lore; she was his match, and her demise serves as a sobering reminder of the catastrophic events often associated with these perilous assignments. Additionally, it illustrates a rare instance where Reacher fell short, and this sense of failure is propelling him through this current season.
To win us over, Robinson needed to make Dominique endearing and worthy of admiration right from the start, a feat she accomplished effortlessly. Moreover, it was crucial for her to demonstrate that she matched Reacher in terms of ability, another box she successfully checked. This required mastering military lingo with finesse and tugging at our heartstrings, a challenge Ritchson acknowledged was formidable.
To be frank, she nailed that part flawlessly. Let me tell you, I’ve been in the industry for almost two decades, tackling various projects and overcoming numerous obstacles. Even with Reacher, there were instances where we had minimal time to rehearse intricate dialogues. Frankly, I can’t recall a role more demanding for an actor.
The actress played a crucial role in making Episode 4 standout for Ritchson, according to him. He shared that her exceptional skills made that episode particularly memorable. To me, this narrative provided the pulse that drove the entire season. It was quite demanding, but she handled it elegantly, as the Reacher star described.
Without a shadow of a doubt, she single-handedly rescued this whole season. I can’t think of anyone else who could have pulled off such a feat. To put it simply, she was extraordinarily skilled and tackled the most challenging, weighty lift of any role I’ve encountered in my professional career. And she did it flawlessly.
This season, with its constant collisions against walls and battles against a towering seven-foot-two opponent, proves to be particularly tough for Ritchson. Additionally, he acknowledges that mastering expositional dialogue and specialized terminology is no easy feat as well.
Amidst the grueling encounters of being hurled into walls and grappling with a 7’2″ adversary this season, Ritchson finds it extremely challenging. Moreover, he doesn’t underestimate the difficulty in picking up expositional dialogue and technical jargon during this period.
In order to successfully execute this significant episode delving into Reacher’s past, Robinson found herself needing to assist extensively. The actor was astounded by her performance, expressing his admiration by stating that she did an exceptional job.
It’s remarkable how challenging the dialogue, rhythm, technical terms, and rapid pace in those interrogation scenes seemed, even to someone with a knack for writing dialogues. I’ve rarely encountered anything as complex.
Next time you tune into this fantastic Amazon Prime series, “Reacher”, don’t just focus on the action. Give some attention to its technical dialogue and emotional moments too. Both Alan Ritchson and I find ourselves captivated by these elements, particularly after witnessing Mariah Robinson’s impressive portrayal of Dominique Kohl.
In a mere hour’s time, I found myself captivated by this actress who graced just one episode. Her remarkable portrayal of a character deeply entwined with Jack Reacher resonated with me profoundly. The poignant bond she shared with the character was palpable, and her untimely demise served as a powerful catalyst for Alan Ritchson’s character to embark on the perilous journey he currently finds himself in.
You know what they say: she might be gone, but she’ll never be forgotten.
