As a gamer with a decade-long history of attending concerts and events, this news comes as a sobering reminder of the world we live in today. I’ve been to my fair share of shows, from small indie gigs to massive arena spectacles like Taylor Swift’s Eras Tour. The thought that such an experience could be marred by terror is truly disheartening.
Shortly following the detention of two individuals allegedly plotting a terrorist incident at the Eras Tour, Taylor Swift’s performances in Vienna have regrettably been called off.
According to an ABC report, Barracuda Music issued a statement explaining the reasons behind the cancellation of their shows. The statement goes as follows:
Due to safety concerns, it’s necessary that we call off the upcoming three performances. Rest assured, your ticket money will be returned to you without any action needed on your part.
On Wednesday morning, a 19-year-old Austrian resident was taken into custody for his suspected plot. Another individual was apprehended later in the day. It is claimed that these two individuals radicalized themselves online, as stated by Franz Ruf, the head of public safety at the Ministry of the Interior. Moreover, it appears that the 19-year-old had declared loyalty to the leader of the Islamic State back in July.
It appears that the intended target of the attack was Taylor Swift’s concert in Vienna, which was set for performances on Thursday, Friday, and Saturday. Unfortunately, these shows have now been cancelled.
More to come…
