As a gaming enthusiast, I can’t help but share some exciting news! Ever dreamt of experiencing movie seats that move, getting hit by wind and snow, or even catching a whiff of specific scents? If you have, then the number of places in the U.S. where you can live out this fantasy has just skyrocketed — if everything goes according to plan!

For the initial collaboration, AMC Theatres and cutting-edge cinema tech firm CJ 4DPLEX are joining forces to introduce 65 high-end SCREENX and 40 immersive 4DX cinemas to AMC venues worldwide. This includes introducing these technologies for the first time in the United States. At present, they have been running nine SCREENX auditoriums under the Odeon Cinemas brand in Europe.

Or simply:

AMC Theatres and CJ 4DPLEX are partnering together for the first time to bring more than 100 premium SCREENX and 4DX cinemas to AMC locations around the globe, including the US for the first time. They currently operate nine SCREENX auditoriums in Europe under AMC’s Odeon Cinemas banner.

The financial terms of the deal were not disclosed.

A significant portion of our resources will be utilized in strategic AMC locations. We anticipate that the first SCREENX theaters will open this summer, coinciding with Hollywood’s major release season. Later in the fall, we expect to inaugurate our initial 4DX theaters. The complete deployment is projected to be finished by 2027.

This agreement signifies a significant step forward in CJ 4DPLEX’s global growth, as it expands its presence further within the high-end cinema sector. This new deal will increase the number of premium screens associated with CJ 4DPLEX to over 1,200 locations globally.

For AMC, this partnership signifies a substantial advancement since it capitalizes on the superior quality of premium movie theater experiences as the exhibition industry adapts. In fact, following the pandemic, consumers have shown great interest in paying extra for an enhanced cinematic experience like IMAX.

Adam Aron, AMC Entertainment’s CEO, declared this collaboration with CJ 4DPLEX to offer revolutionary cinema experiences like SCREENX and 4DX to AMC viewers as another significant stride in our dedication to providing top-tier, advanced enjoyment for our global audience. As the entertainment world transforms, AMC remains at the forefront by adopting innovative technologies and premium experiences that reshape the concept of movie-watching delight.

Currently, AMC Entertainment manages approximately 900 cinemas and 10,000 movie screens globally, with the majority falling under its own brand, AMC Theatres, across the United States. In Europe and the Middle East, it also operates ODEON Cinemas and other brands.

Jun Bang, CEO of CJ 4DPLEX, stated that this agreement emphasizes the increasing global appeal of both our formats, marking an important milestone in the cinema industry’s ongoing journey to deliver unique and innovative entertainment experiences to audiences.

According to Don Savant, CEO of CJ 4DPLEX America, the recent AMC deal coincides with their achievement of securing the most extensive collection yet for both their SCREENX and 4DX formats. This move enhances their ties with filmmakers and Hollywood studios.

ScreenX cinemas offer a breathtaking, 270-degree panoramic experience by projecting certain scenes onto both the left and right walls of the theater. Currently, there are more than 430 ScreenX theaters located in over 40 countries globally.

As a movie enthusiast, I’ve had the privilege of experiencing the immersive 4DX cinema sensation that transforms visuals on-screen into a multi-dimensional extravaganza. This innovative technology offers motion, vibration, wind, lightning, scents, and other unique effects to intensify the cinematic experience. Currently, there are over 780 4DX auditoriums across more than 70 countries worldwide. In regions like Asia and Latin America, it has proven to be a remarkable addition to the film industry.

Forthcoming films in SCREENX and 4DX consist of various titles such as Warner Bros.’ “A Minecraft Movie” and “Sinners”, Marvel Studios’ “Thunderbolts”, Paramount Pictures’ “Mission: Impossible – The Final Reckoning”, Lionsgate’s “Ballerina”, Universal Pictures’ “How To Train Your Dragon”, Sony Pictures’ “28 Years Later”, Warner Bros.’ “F1”, Universal Pictures’ “Jurassic World Rebirth”, Warner Bros.’ “Superman”, and Marvel Studios’ “The Fantastic Four: First Steps”.
