As a huge fan of Andra Day‘s acting abilities, I can’t contain my excitement for her latest role in “The Deliverance.” From her powerful performance as Billie Holiday to now facing down demonic forces in this supernatural thriller, Day continues to showcase her versatility and talent.
In a newly released trailer for “The Deliverance” by Lee Daniels, Andra Day portrays a devoted mother struggling for her own survival, her spiritual beliefs, and the well-being of her kids.
In her new abode shrouded in secrecy, single mother Ebony Jackson, portrayed by the talented Day and grappling with inner turmoil, encounters an ominous presence threatening her kids’ safety within the house walls. She must summon courage to confront this malevolent force.
“I call upon you, Father, to purify and bless us for this crucial mission. Let’s rid this place of the chaos and save Ebony’s family.”
In real life, things don’t always turn out as expected for Ebony. She finds herself engulfed in a struggle against greater forces to save her loved ones from demonic possession. This supernatural thriller by Daniels, inspired by actual events, also features the talents of Glenn Close, Anthony B. Jenkins, and Mo’Nique.
In a new and innovative way for Daniels, the religious-themed movie, titled “The Deliverance,” collaborates with Day once again. The film will make its debut in select cinemas on August 16, followed by its availability on Netflix starting August 30. After her powerful portrayal of Billie Holiday in “The United States VS Billie Holiday,”, which highlighted the jazz singer’s role during the early Civil Rights era, Day reunites with Daniels for this project.
Daniels led the making of “The Deliverance,” with a script penned by David Coggeshall and Elijah Bynum. The producer roles were assumed by Daniels, Tucker Tooley, Pamela Oas Williams, Jackson Nguyen, and Todd Crites, while Jackie Shenoo, Hilary Shor, Greg Renker, and Gregoire Gensollen acted as executive producers.
