As a long-time fan of animated series and video game adaptations, I have to say that the return of Arcane on Netflix is like a sweet melody to my ears. The show’s first season was an absolute masterpiece, setting new records and leaving fans craving more. So, when Season 2 dropped, it felt like Christmas had come early!
The show is once again leading the charts following Season 2’s release, securing another massive debut on the platform. Yet, the excitement among fans has been tinged with sadness, as it was earlier revealed that this season will mark the end of the series, despite its popularity making it one of the streamer’s top-rated shows.
The animated adult series titled “Arcane” is based within the universe of Riot Games’ “League of Legends,” featuring voice actors like , , Kevin Alejando, Katie Leung, and Jason Spisak. Debuting during the 10th anniversary celebration of “League of Legends”, its first season aired in 2021 to rave reviews. Remarkably, it broke records by becoming the highest-rated series, reaching the top position in 52 countries within the initial week of release.
Now, Season 2 is out and appears to mirror its predecessor’s success, quickly climbing to the peak of the rankings and receiving another perfect 100% rating from critics on Rotten Tomatoes. Already acclaimed as one of the greatest video game adaptations ever made, it seems that this new season has only served to strengthen that status. However, for fans, there’s a catch: it was announced earlier in the year that these episodes mark the end of the series.
Why is Arcane Ending After 2 Perfect Seasons?
Supporters of the series “Arcane” were taken aback when they learned that it would conclude after merely two seasons. It’s become customary in successful franchises to prolong the narrative across numerous seasons, but despite the positive energy surrounding “Arcane“, co-creator Christian Linke told CinemaBlend that a particular story was intended to be told, and it required only two seasons to do so. He stated:
From the beginning, we had a clear narrative vision. Now, you might have expanded it, but for us, it was always about sticking to our original plan. Personally, as creators, we’ve noticed that keeping stories fresh can be challenging, especially when it comes to prolonged exposure to the same characters and settings. For us, this project has been ongoing for nine years now, so maintaining inspiration and originality has been a significant challenge. Furthermore, we feel a sense of responsibility towards our vision, as we started with a specific idea in mind that we want to see through to the end.
It appears that ending the series Arcane after just two seasons is a wise choice because it’s already proven itself, leaving no need for further proof, and it can then depart with a triumphant finale.
