As CBS Confirms The FBI Shows' 2025 Return Dates, Here's What One Boss Told Us About Getting To Do A Full Season Again

As a gamer with over two decades of TV viewing under my belt, I can confidently say that the FBI trilogy has been a staple in my Tuesday night routine since their debuts. The fall 2024 schedule announcement was like Christmas coming early for me, knowing that FBI, FBI: International, and FBI: Most Wanted will continue to dominate my screen from 8 PM ET all the way to 10 PM ET.

On Tuesday nights during fall 2024, the three FBI series – FBI Season 7 at 8 p.m. ET, followed by FBI: International Season 4 and concluding with FBI: Most Wanted Season 6 at 10 p.m. ET – have been holding their ground on CBS. Although these shows haven’t reached their fall finales yet, they will return in the 2025 TV schedule as previously announced. This news brought to mind David Hudgins, showrunner of FBI: Most Wanted, discussing his excitement about getting another full season this time around.

To start things off, just as CBS crammed a lot of content into their Fall Premiere Week, they’ve got some major plans lined up for the last week of January. Get ready to see three of CBS’ shows in the nine-show universe created by Dick Wolf return on Tuesday, January 28, and it’s back to the regular schedule with the time slots as usual.

  • FBI – 8 p.m. ET
  • FBI: International – 9 p.m. ET
  • FBI: Most Wanted – 10 p.m. ET

Typically, it’s no major issue for a series to begin in autumn, take a winter break around late November or early December, and resume in the new year. However, the recent trend in TV has deviated significantly from this norm. For instance, the show FBI: Most Wanted, which initially aired a 14-episode first season, had its run disrupted when the COVID-19 pandemic affected the entertainment industry. This was followed by a second season consisting of 15 episodes, which would likely have been longer if not for the difficulties in production caused by COVID-19.

Seasons 3 and 4 of FBI: Most Wanted each consisted of the standard 22 episodes for a network TV drama. However, the Writers Guild of America (WGA) and Screen Actors Guild-American Federation of Television and Radio Artists (SAG-AFTRA) strikes caused Season 5 to be reduced to only 13 episodes, airing from February to May 2024. In essence, it’s been quite an exciting journey watching FBI: Most Wanted since its debut.

During my chat with showrunner David Hudgins before the start of Season 6, I inquired about updates on the team’s relationships and any worries concerning Remy’s wellbeing. I specifically asked how it differed to prepare for a complete 22-episode season this time compared to the abbreviated Season 5. He responded by:

For the upcoming season, we’re returning to the pattern of producing approximately 22 episodes, much like in previous years. However, I should mention that for two seasons of Friday Night Lights, we worked on 13-episode orders instead. It’s a challenging task, but it’s like running a marathon – you need to be prepared and ready to endure it.

Working on a series that spans multiple episodes in one season is a massive undertaking, as Ken Girotti, Executive Producer of “Most Wanted,” previously noted to TopMob. He emphasized the need for “extensive collaboration” among different departments to produce 22 action-packed episodes per season. Later, David Hudgins elaborated on the endurance required for an entire season of a show like “FBI”: it’s a long, grueling process.

As a storyteller, if you’ve mapped out your season and have a clear idea of the direction, it’s common for everyone involved – cast, crew, and writers – to feel fatigued around episode 18 or 19. It’s just the nature of the industry. However, with episode 22, I’m accustomed to the pace, and I’m happy to bring episodes to television. So, I’d choose episode 22 every time.

It’s likely that fans would be pleased to receive 22 episodes for each show, and it appears that’s the intention for FBI, FBI: International, and FBI: Most Wanted this season. Each series undoubtedly faces unique production hurdles – with FBI: International being produced in Budapest, for instance – but it’s evident that a considerable amount of effort is put into their creation.

At present, you can continue to watch fresh episodes of all three shows every Tuesday evening on CBS. Mark your calendars for the 2025 winter premieres set for January 28. To rewatch old episodes, you have options: The most recent seasons of all three series are accessible via a Paramount+ subscription, and they also offer the entire first six seasons of FBI. If you’d like to stream earlier seasons of FBI: Most Wanted and FBI: International, you’ll need a Peacock subscription.
