As a long-time fan of Law & Order: Organized Crime, the news that Season 5 is moving to Peacock Premium has left me feeling both excited and a tad nostalgic. I remember the days when Elliot Stabler, Ayanna Bell, and the rest of the team graced our Thursday nights on NBC alongside SVU and the original series. Now, with Danielle Moné Truitt confirming her return as Bell and work having started on Season 5, my heart is filled with relief and anticipation.
Fans of “Law & Order: Organized Crime” usually anticipate seeing Elliot Stabler, Ayanna Bell, and their team on NBC’s Thursdays alongside “SVU” and the original series. However, for Season 5, “Organized Crime” is moving to streaming and will be an exclusive offering for Peacock Premium subscribers. Now, one cast member has started work on the new season, which brings me back to what Christopher Meloni hinted about in TopMob’s 2024 TV schedule earlier.
First things first!
Danielle Moné Truitt Drops Good News For Fans
Information about Season 5 of ‘Law & Order: Organized Crime’ was scant over most of the summer, with only Christopher Meloni and showrunner John Shiban being confirmed to move from NBC to Peacock. However, Danielle Moné Truitt, who plays Sergeant Ayanna Bell, eased fan concerns by posting a photo and caption on Instagram, suggesting that more details may be forthcoming.

It was likely no surprise that Danielle Moné Truitt would reprise her role as Bell in the fifth season, and the news that she’s resumed work on Organized Crime is certainly something to be excited about. Given the actress’s comments about the chaos at the start of Season 4, it seems unfathomable for the task force to continue without Bell.
As a fervent admirer, I’m quite elated to note that Rick Gonzalez, portraying Detective Bobby Reyes, has responded with a laughing emoji to Truitt’s comment. This seems like a positive sign for his character too. The enigma surrounding Season 5 continues, with more questions than answers, and the recent promotional material for “Law & Order” Thursdays without “Organized Crime” left me feeling a bit disappointed. However, knowing that cast members are back at work ignites a spark of optimism within me, suggesting that our beloved show might make its comeback before 2024 draws to a close.
At the moment when this is being written, Christopher Meloni himself hasn’t posted any updates about the start of production, however, he previously shared some fun concepts with TopMob during the summer.
What Christopher Meloni Told Us
Although the actor previously known for SVU’s transition to Organized Crime didn’t resume work in NYC as promptly as Mariska Hargitay and Ice-T did for their NBC returns in early October, Meloni pursued a different endeavor during the summer: the Catch A Cat Burglar: Purry Duty podcast. He shared with TopMob what sparked his interest in joining the Temptations podcast, just after he returned from the Olympics and SVU fan meetings in Paris.
I delved into a chat about his beloved character too, and since we’re discussing his podcast contributions, there was an intriguing debate: Is Stabler more of a cat person or a dog person? His unique perspective added a fun twist to the discussion.
It’s very funny because this literally just came up today, and I don’t know. That would be a really funny thing for Stabler to have. I say that because I think he’s a dog person, and I think he just likes reliable and straightforward and man’s best friend, all that stuff. How about something that is far more independent? You know, it doesn’t really need you. [laughs] I just think it’d be a funny dynamic. Him not quite being able to wrap his head around this thing and yet can’t help himself from falling in love with it. I could just see it. I don’t know. I’ll bring it up at the next writers meeting.
In a “Law & Order” series, delving into Stabler’s romantic life is a topic that has intrigued fans since the show’s inception in 1999, alongside his partnership with Benson. However, if you ask me, I’d be thrilled to see Stabler spending time with a pet cat regularly. Given his work schedule, a low-maintenance pet like a cat would be perfect for him. A touch of lightheartedness could indeed bring some balance to such a grim show. When I suggested on Day 1 that Stabler should adopt a cat on Peacock, Meloni chuckled and said:
In fact, he goes on the crime scene, trying to figure out the crime with me.
Indeed, introducing a cat coworker for the lead detective could be an innovative approach to revamp “Law & Order” after more than three decades on television! It’s true that the franchise has covered a wide range of topics over the years, but this unique twist on “Organized Crime” is something we haven’t seen before. After I playfully suggested that I would tune in for such a show, Meloni indicated that he was on board with the idea as well.
It’s quite amusing, isn’t it? Particularly when we attempt to instruct our feline friends. When I ask them for their thoughts, they respond with a ‘meow’. And guess what? I often find myself agreeing with them. [laughs] In between the scenes, there’s not a ‘dun dun’, but rather a soft purr. [laughs] I’m planning to contact Dick Wolf as soon as this conversation ends.
Despite limited information about the storyline in Organized Crime Season 5, it’s highly unlikely that Stabler will acquire a feline partner as the series moves to Peacock. However, Meloni’s humorous suggestion of a new cat character was quite amusing during this anticipation period for fresh updates, given the unclear future for Stabler when the second half of Season 4 was airing before the Peacock renewal announcement.
Although no specific release date has been announced yet, it’s heartening to see the cast resuming filming for Law & Order: Organized Crime. If you’d like to rewatch episodes from the first four seasons while waiting, they are currently streaming on Peacock. Additionally, you can listen to Christopher Meloni’s podcast work on the Catch a Cat Burglar: Purry Duty project, which is available across all popular platforms.
