2025 has been tough on video games thus far, and it’s likely to remain challenging if not for the release of GTA 6. On a positive note, the upcoming news about the Dune: Awakening game title may bring some optimism to the developers at Atomfall.

Although some people believe that these two titles are based on distinct foundations, their shared open-world structure could inadvertently lead to an increase in the number of players for both games. This is why pushing back the release date for Dune: Awakening could actually be beneficial.

Atomfall just avoided a player carnage, thanks to Dune: Awakening

In a field where the success or failure of your video game could hinge on its initial release conditions, it can be quite challenging to thrive. Although frequent launches throughout the year are exciting for players and aficionados, they don’t bring much joy to the developers.

More recently, the game “Atomfall” was launched on March 27th. Despite the upcoming release of the highly anticipated “Dune” video game, initially scheduled for May 20th, 2023, it has now been postponed to June 10th, 2025. This delay in release could potentially allow “Atomfall” to maintain its player base, as pointed out by @screentime on X.

The upcoming multiplayer open-world survival game, ‘DUNE: AWAKENING’, which is part of the Dune universe, has experienced a minor pushback in its release date. Instead of May 20th, 2025, you’ll be able to dive into the world on June 10th, 2025.

The game titled “Atomfall” has done quite well and deserves to bask in its moment before the next major release steals the limelight. Even though games like “Elden Ring: Nightreign” continue to draw players, it doesn’t pose as big a threat as “Dune: Awakening” did.

Why Dune: Awakening might have just shot itself in the foot

Delaying the release of Dune: Awakening may not bode well. Despite the game likely selling strongly due to the franchise’s widespread popularity from the movie and book adaptations, it could face divided interest among gamers who are more eagerly anticipating the launch of Nintendo Switch 2.

Set for a debut on June 5th, the Nintendo Switch 2 is highly anticipated due to its upgraded features, following the groundbreaking handheld console launched in 2017. Coincidentally, this release date falls only five days before the premiere of the video game version of Dune, and at this point, it appears that the developers can only postpone the launch again to steer clear of potential competition.

Looking back now, it’s clear that 2025 was an incredibly challenging year for game developers like myself. In fact, some of us had to factor in the close proximity of the GTA 6 release, which disrupted even our best-laid plans for a seamless launch.
