As a city dweller who’s always on the lookout for unique dining experiences, I can hardly contain my excitement about BAO City! Having grown up in the vibrant and eclectic cityscapes of Taiwan myself, I find the ’80s and ’90s aesthetic that BAO City is going for to be a nostalgic delight. The idea of a karaoke bar right in the heart of the city’s financial district? Absolutely brilliant!
As a gaming enthusiast, I can’t wait to share the news that my favorite Taiwanese food joint, BAO, is opening a new restaurant in the heart of London’s bustling city center! Named BAO City, this place isn’t just about delicious buns and sticks – it also houses a flagship KTV (karaoke) spot. Situated inside the trendy Bloomberg Arcade, a hub where independent eateries, culture, and arts intersect, BAO City promises to be an exciting addition to our neighborhood. Can’t wait to belt out tunes and savor those bao!
BAO’s co-founder and creative director, Erchen Chang, shares his enthusiasm about opening BAO City: “We can’t wait to bring our vision of a Taiwanese karaoke bar to life, right in the heart of the city’s bustling financial district!” This new venture stands apart from their other restaurants, as it draws inspiration from the vibrant cityscape of 1980s and 1990s Taiwan, complete with city-pop aesthetics and a neon-lit atmosphere that reflects Chang’s childhood experiences.
The in-house creative team at BAO, known as MATHS, has designed the interior of the new restaurant. It boasts dark red satin-finished walls, cherrywood veneer paneling, and geometrically shaped banquette seating upholstered in burgundy leather. The ambiance is cozy and reminiscent of the past, with a standalone lightbox providing lighting, complemented by individual lamps on each dining table.
This restaurant boasts two exclusive karaoke rooms for your entertainment. With over 300,000 tracks at your fingertips, you’ll find plenty to sing along to. One room, themed after the iconic ‘Wall Street’ movie by Oliver Stone from 1987, can accommodate up to ten guests. The other, inspired by Edward Yang’s ‘Taipei Story’ from 1985, is a larger space suitable for parties of 25. It includes stunning LED screens that mimic the vibrant Fujifilm billboard seen in neon lights.
The menu emphasizes communal dishes, featuring signature BAO items along with an array of small plates suitable for larger gatherings and celebrations. In terms of beverages, the drink selection now offers beer towers, allowing diners and karaoke enthusiasts to enjoy them at their convenience.
BAO City will officially launch towards the end of this month, specifically on the 26th of September. If you’re eager to secure a spot, reservations can be made through BAO’s official website from the 6th of September onwards.
