‘Beetlejuice Beetlejuice’ Sets Streaming Release Date on Max

As a longtime fan of Tim Burton’s quirky and imaginative films, I must admit that the release of “Beetlejuice Beetlejuice” feels like a dream come true! Having grown up with the original movie, I remember the excitement it sparked in my younger days, and now to see its return after more than three decades is truly remarkable.

30 years in the making, I can finally stream the hilarious horror sequel, “Beetlejuice Beetlejuice”! Tim Burton’s masterpiece is still gracing big screens around the globe, and has already been released on digital and physical media. But now, it’s time for us streaming enthusiasts to enjoy the antics of the quirky bio-exorcist again. Absolutely, “Beetlejuice Beetlejuice” is worth another watch!

The follow-up is set to premiere on Max even quicker than saying “Beetlejuice Beetlejuice” thrice. In other words, Beetlejuice Beetlejuice will air on Max on December 6, making it perfect for Christmas viewing if you prefer an unconventional choice over the traditional family-friendly movies or adventures.

In the sequel to Tim Burton’s 1988 film “Beetlejuice,” titled “Beetlejuice Beetlejuice,” the story unfolds with the Deetz family in present times. Notably, Papa Charles, played by the actor (you can find out who he is with a quick Google search), is no longer part of the picture due to certain circumstances related to his demise. However, the screenwriters cleverly utilize this character’s death as an opportunity for a family reunion. Lydia Deetz, portrayed by Winona Ryder, now hosts a talk show where she demonstrates her unique talent for speaking with the spirits. Her daughter, Astrid, has been distant from Lydia since her father passed away. When Lydia encounters Betelgeuse, played by Michael Keaton, during one of her séances, she feels it’s time to return to Winter River.

In their reunion with Delia, Charles’ widow who is portrayed by Catherine O’Hara, Astrid and Lydia come to suspect that Astrid might have acquired some of her mother’s mystical abilities. Meanwhile, in the shadowy realm, Betelgeuse has expanded his bio-exorcism business, but his ex-wife Dolores (Monica Bellucci) makes a return with vengeance on her mind. Later, he teams up with Lydia to locate Astrid, subject to certain terms and conditions.

Since “Beetlejuice” left a lasting impression on audiences in the late ’80s and Tim Burton was granted creative freedom to create his unique, humorous films, there have been numerous attempts to produce a “Beetlejuice” sequel. The production process faced many challenges, as it took 36 years before we could witness the return of cinema’s wittiest bio-exorcist.

‘Beetlejuice Beetlejuice’ is Yet Another Winning Legacy Sequel

In September 2024, the movie Beetlejuice Beetlejuice was warmly appreciated by both audiences and critics. It grossed an impressive $451 million at the box office and has a 77% rating on Rotten Tomatoes.

In the sequel, Ryder made a comeback after his career revitalization started with “Stranger Things”. Michael Keaton was indispensable in “Beetlejuice Beetlejuice”, and it’s clear that Burton understood this by providing him more on-screen presence and creative leeway to express his character genuinely.

But Ortega’s addition to the cast was the necessary ingredient to make the film more appealing to modern audiences. This couldn’t have been a coincidence, especially since she gave such a good performance in Netflix’s Wednesday, also a Burton project. As strange as it sounds, the Beetlejuice sequel is actually more “appropriate” for younger audiences than the first, with its toned-down depiction of death and what comes after. So, while it doesn’t have a Christmas theme, it could be a good gateway pick for movie night in case you want to introduce the kids to horror comedies.
