In the “Zombies” mode of Call of Duty Black Ops 6, there have often been weapons that seemed promising but turned out to be ineffective after being used.
Whether it was the weak impact of the Goblin Mk2’s splashes or the Maelstrom’s poor kill count, certain weapons weren’t powerful enough to last in later rounds. However, with Season 3 Reloaded, things have changed for the better.
In its most recent update, the new patch offers fresh content and resolves problems that previously made certain weapons more aggravating than entertaining. For instance, the Marine SP was nearly useless prior to the upgrade due to one of the slowest reload times in the game, making it unfit for a swift-moving horde mode.
Reducing the reload action to a swift gesture makes the Marine SP not only practical but also incredibly enjoyable to handle. In addition, the Goblin Mk2 has received a significant upgrade. The High Art event unlocks a new conversion kit that allows it to autonomously shoot mini-rockets, transforming a previously uninteresting rifle into an excitingly explosive weapon.
Additionally, the Pack-a-Punch’s damage significantly increased, particularly at Level 3, doubling its strength and making it a formidable threat against tougher zombies. The Maelstrom shotgun should not go unnoticed either; due to its poor performance, it has become a popular joke among gamers.
The performance of the weapon was poor, its power output was minimal, and its ammunition supply was dismal. Despite being fully upgraded, numerous players believed superior weapons such as the ASG-89 were still more effective. However, recent enhancements have noticeably improved the Maelstrom’s hit rate when Pack-a-Punched, with its damage increased by 50%.
Despite facing detractors, it’s now becoming a topic of discussion rather than being ignored. Notably, the Zombies mode has received updates beyond weapon overhauls. A significant modification is the expansion of the Ray Gun Mark II availability across all maps, no longer limited to Shattered Veil only.
Now, you have the freedom to grab one of the mode’s famous weapons without being tied down to a specific location. The GobbleGum system has significantly shortened its cooldown periods (from five minutes to just ten seconds) and made it activate almost instantly.

It’s obvious that developers hope more players will adopt these new features, yet the community seems to be at odds on the matter. Many argue that the problem isn’t about cooldowns, but rather the sluggish rate at which items are earned and the limited usefulness of most GobbleGums outside of Easter egg quests. However, for those who enjoy customizing their loadout with perks and enhancements, this overhaul undoubtedly points towards positive changes.
The developers have streamlined the process of unlocking camouflage, making it possible to advance some weapons solely through eliminations instead of requiring critical kills (like headshots). This modification makes the grinding process less harsh, particularly for weapons such as the GS45 and LR 7.62, which detonate their targets swiftly, often before a chance for a headshot arises.
The improvements collaborate harmoniously to give Zombies an essential enhancement. With season 3 reloaded, issues are addressed through weapon balancing, various user-friendly adjustments, and the introduction of a fresh game mode called “Zombie Bites,” in which players must carefully manage energy and food resources.
If you’ve been hesitant about diving back into the world of Zombies, now might be the perfect moment to rejoin! With Season 4 approaching rapidly, this mid-season change could mark the beginning of an exceptional period for Black Ops 6’s Zombies mode.
