Blumhouse Takes Over Saw Franchise: What’s Next for Saw XI?

It’s been announced that Blumhouse will obtain the rights for the Saw franchise before the questionable debut of Saw X.

On Thursday, it was confirmed by multiple sources that the Saw franchise was set to transition from Twisted Pictures to Blumhouse Productions, a renowned horror movie studio known for producing recent hits like M3GAN 2.0 and Drop. As per the reports, Blumhouse will assume control of the intellectual property from Mark Burg and Oren Koules, with plans to bring back James Wan. Although Lionsgate will retain a 50% stake in the franchise, Twisted Pictures will no longer be involved.

2004 saw James Wan helming the initial “Saw” movie, a classic slasher that’s left an indelible mark on horror enthusiasts due to its intricate plot twists and graphic visuals. Over time, the “Saw” franchise has experienced highs and lows in terms of reception, but fans have shown enthusiasm for its recent focus on its grisly origins. To date, the “Saw” universe has generated over $1 billion from box office revenues, comics, toys, and other merchandise. However, there’s a growing sense of apprehension among fans regarding “Saw XI.

Saw XI Could Be a Disaster

Horror Fans are Scared

I recently witnessed that “Saw X” was the highest-earning movie in the series to date, igniting excitement among fans for Jigsaw’s return and his deadly traps. Besides the gory torture scenes, the film delved into Kramer’s psyche, portraying him as a more relatable adversary.

Leaving things at such a peak was undeniably satisfying, sparking anticipation among fans for the upcoming sequel. Initially slated for release in September 2025, the project encountered delays when Lionsgate and the film’s producers disagreed about the direction of Saw XI. Writers Patrick Melton and Marcus Dunstan mentioned they had penned a “relevant story” for the movie, aligning with the themes from Saw VI, mirroring societal concerns over healthcare, finances, and other matters. This narrative seems to echo the cancer treatment fraud in Saw X that pushed Jigsaw to the brink.

Although there hasn’t been an official confirmation about the resurgence of Saw XI following its initial cancellation, recent news concerning Blumhouse suggests that it might indeed be in the works. However, the path this movie will take is uncertain at this point. Blumhouse has garnered praise from the horror community for their films, but there’s still a chance the original idea behind the film could be revisited. As of now, no definite release date for potential Saw XI has been announced.
