As a seasoned Broadway enthusiast and gaming aficionado, I must say that the current state of the Great White Way is nothing short of exhilarating! With heavyweights like Wicked, The Lion King, and Hamilton continuing their dominance, it’s a thrill to witness the newcomers making their mark.

As a devoted theater enthusiast, I had the privilege of witnessing the breathtaking resurrection of Andrew Lloyd Webber’s musical at the St. James Theatre on October 20th, skillfully directed by Jamie Lloyd and featuring the captivating Nicole Scherzinger. The performances catapulted our production into the ranks of the top five highest-grossing shows in the industry last week, with earnings surpassed only by the established giants like “Wicked” ($2.2 million), “The Lion King” ($1.9 million), and “Hamilton” ($1.7 million). The final spot was claimed by Alicia Keys’ “Hell’s Kitchen,” raking in a remarkable $1.5 million. What an incredible week it was for the world of theater!
Over the last week, the Broadway run of the thought-provoking play titled “Job” – co-produced by Shari Redstone – reached its conclusion. During this final stretch, the production brought in a record-breaking $363,992 and filled 91% of the seats at the Hayes Theater.
Generally speaking, the overall earnings in the industry decreased slightly (by 2%) compared to the last week, but attendance grew by 1%. This is happening as more productions are preparing for Thanksgiving and the upcoming winter holidays.
Multiple new productions are currently having their initial performances, such as the musical rendition of “Death Becomes Her,” which generated slightly over half a million dollars during its first three previews at the Lunt-Fontanne Theatre. This musical will officially debut on November 21st.
Last week, the musical titled “Tammy Faye,” featuring music by Elton John, performed seven shows at the Palace Theatre, which was a significant increase from the three shows it played the previous week. With an approximate revenue of $550,000 and playing to 80% of its capacity, the show is gearing up for its official opening on November 14.
On October 24th, the production of Romeo and Juliet, starring Rachel Zegler and Kit Connor, debuted at the Circle in the Square Theatre. The earnings for the opening night and subsequent press shows were all included, totalling approximately $955,000 across eight performances. This figure represents a decrease of around $100,000 compared to the previous week. Remarkably, the theatre’s capacity was over 100 percent during these performances.
