As a seasoned gamer with a deep love for music and biopics, I can hardly contain my excitement over the upcoming Bruce Springsteen biopic, Deliver Me From Nowhere. The casting is simply outstanding! Jeremy Allen White is an inspired choice to play the iconic Boss himself, and Jeremy Strong bringing Jon Landau to life? I couldn’t have dreamed it up better myself.
Jon Landau, who’s been managing Bruce Springsteen for a long time, is sharing his insights about the upcoming biopic titled “Deliver Me From Nowhere“. This movie focuses on The Boss during the creation of his 1982 hit album “Nebraska” instead.
In the upcoming movie, Jeremy Allen White has been cast as Bruce Springsteen, while Jeremy Strong will portray Clarence Clemons, also known as Landau. This film is based on the 2023 book titled “Deliver Me from Nowhere: The Making of Bruce Springsteen’s Nebraska,” written by Warren Zanes.
Wow, he’s simply outstanding for the role. I told The Hollywood Reporter that the casting is spot on for White as the superstar. Scott Cooper, the director, had said at the start that ‘we need the right actors, and we’ll tell this story perfectly,’ and he certainly found the right cast.
That includes Strong, with whom Landau is also very happy.
The manager playfully remarked, ‘It’s like I went to heaven,’ when he learned that the star of Succession would portray him. ‘He’s an amazing individual,’ he said. ‘I can’t wait to witness his performance and gain insights from it.’ He also mentioned that while he and Springsteen aren’t deeply involved, they are delighted with how things are being handled, and they anticipate the result will be stunning.
Currently, the pair is working on the documentary “Road Diary: Bruce Springsteen & The E Street Band,” which chronicles the musician’s 2023 international tour. At a premiere in Los Angeles on Monday, Landau shared that Springsteen, or “The Boss,” decided to create this film post-pandemic because the band hadn’t toured for six years and there were significant events in his life that he wanted to incorporate into the narrative rather than just making a concert movie. Instead, they chose to tell a story. This documentary is not only about the tour but also delves into Springsteen’s relationship with his long-time associates, The E Street Band. It also explores some of the emotional events and upheavals in his life that influenced his latest music.
At the opening showing, hosted at the Academy Museum, Springsteen playfully discussed the project. “Since we wouldn’t have time to complete it if we didn’t do it now, I might not be around much longer,” he quipped, also mentioning that his album Letter to You was written in response to the passing of his former bandmate George Theiss.
After visiting George’s place, I believe he created most of his ‘Letter to You’ album in approximately two weeks and recorded it within four days. At our age, such accomplishments are at the forefront of your mind. My wife Patti Scialfa and I have faced her health challenges, which bring concerns about mortality into our lives. These matters become an integral part of who we are. As I mention in the film, there are more reminiscences and farewells as we advance in age compared to 30 or 40 years ago.
Additionally, Bandmate Steven Van Zandt participated in the post-screening discussion with Springsteen, and he recollected a scene in the movie where the group managed to make an entire stadium completely silent.
During concerts with thousands of people, there’s usually movement and noise, like when folks go to the restroom or grab a drink. But with us, it’s different – there’s an unusual stillness. The crowd isn’t just quiet, they’re completely still. This is a testament to the extraordinary bond our audience shares with our music. It’s a powerful display of their personal connection, as they listen intently to every word we say and note we play. You won’t find this level of engagement in many other places.
Road Diary starts streaming on Hulu and Disney+ on Friday.
