“Can we find the resources to do it? I don’t know” Rebellion’s CEO on the likelihood of an Atomfall sequel

It’s tricky when people call new games like the ones they adore because it can lead to disappointment if the new game isn’t as good. This happened with Atomfall, which was compared to Fallout but wasn’t similar in many ways. As a result, people say it’s just okay, which might not be what developers want when most games now are sequels. Still, they seem to have another game in the works.

Rebellion CEO Jason Kingsley recently discussed with GamesIndustry.biz their open-world game post-launch, stating that “our size and stability allows us to venture into new territories like Atomfall.” He added that this risky move seems to be working out well for them. However, when asked if they’ve found the right balance in their projects’ scale, Kingsley expressed his doubt. In simpler terms, while the CEO is pleased with the success of their unique project, he still believes there’s room for improvement regarding the scale of their projects.

Chris [Kingsley] and I are aiming to replicate our achievements, so we’re keen on developing additional installments of Sniper Elite, Zombie Army, and Strange Brigade. It seems Atomfall has been a success too; the question is whether we can secure the necessary resources to continue its development. I’m not sure yet.

Kingsley continues discussing topics such as the Fallout-like comparisons, the game’s success on Game Pass, and the release of Sniper Elite: Resistance close in time, all points worth considering, but no definite signs about a potential sequel. It seems Rebellion, who have gained popularity with their Sniper series lately, are still waiting to find out if they can create another Atomfall in that market.
