Cancel Netflix Trends After Major Political Donation Revealed

As a long-time gamer and Netflix subscriber, I have to admit that I was taken aback by the recent uproar over Reed Hastings’ political donation to Kamala Harris’ campaign. The #CancelNetflix hashtag trending on social media was a surprise to me, especially since I’ve always valued the service and its vast library of content.

As someone who closely follows tech news and politics, I find it fascinating to witness the power of social media and public perception. I remember when Reed Hastings co-founded Netflix in 1997 and revolutionized the way we consume media. Fast forward to today, and he’s making headlines for a different reason – his political donation to Kamala Harris’ campaign.

X numbers of users and supporters of Trump were upset by the disclosure, sparking numerous posts where they cancelled their subscriptions to the streamer due to the significant donation. In just one day, Harris’ presidential campaign raised an impressive $81 million following Biden’s departure from the race, with him endorsing Harris instead. It appears that Harris will face off against Trump, the Republican nominee and former convict, during elections later in 2020.

@theEXECUTIONER asks his like-minded supporters to make the appropriate decision, reminding them that there are numerous other streaming platforms to choose from.

Mark Greenpoint expresses his opposition to businesses that align with communist ideologies. Little did we know, Harris’ affiliation is red – the color of communism.

@Finn_Tabulos expresses her determination throughout previous attempts to boycott Netflix. However, this new development has left her no choice but to take a firm stance and make good on her threat.

Finally, there is @D4rkR0b who says…well, we don’t even know what he’s trying to say.

It’s Not All Doom and Gloom on Social Media

The declaration by President Biden about stepping down from office has ignited great interest in the presidential race, amplifying the intensity beyond the previous two-person contest between him and Trump. With Vice President Harris joining the fray, the divide between “us” and “them” has grown more pronounced, unfortunately leading some to resort to racist rhetoric, as seen during Barack Obama’s tenure. A renewed surge of animosity towards Harris, her identity, and her gender is the preferred reaction from MAGA supporters who are hell-bent on preserving their firearms, restricting women’s rights, and preventing America from becoming a socialist nation. Notably, this hatred also extends to the transgender community.

“If you’re thinking about canceling Netflix, why not consider canceling Trump as well? He once donated to Harris.”

Despite our dislike for AI, @ProseccoLiquido amusingly expressed their perspective through a charming Christmas photo they recently posted.

Another user named @AtticsOfUrLife mentions that they created a new account due to Hastings’ generous contribution.

At Decodnlyfe1’s request, I’d be more than happy to extend my Netflix membership for an additional eight years if that were possible, as expressed with a humorous .gif of Harris chuckling.

Lastly, we have @Thepartyflorist, who remarks with a wink that those very individuals who frequently criticize cancel culture are now advocating for its application against Netflix. Aren’t we living in an ironic world, reminiscent of Alanis Morissette’s lyrics?

Although Netflix may experience some cancellations in the near future, it’s important to remember that it remains the leading streaming platform globally with over 277 million subscribers. In contrast, competitors like Apple TV+ are significantly trailing behind. This cancellation wave might not negatively impact their financial performance, but it could potentially attract new subscribers. So, despite the ongoing calls for boycott, Netflix continues to thrive financially.
