Last night, it was an illustrious gathering at Cannes, where The Hollywood Reporter, in partnership with Longines, held the grand afterparty for Lynne Ramsay’s suspenseful film “Die, My Love”.
Robert Pattinson made an immediate appearance at the Palais premiere, where the movie received a heartwarming six-minute standing ovation. Not long after, LaKeith Stanfield showed up, shaking things up by dancing during photo shoots on the red carpet. Jennifer Lawrence arrived later in the evening, accompanied by Longines CEO Matthias Breschan.
Alongside other celebrities, Eddie Redmayne’s star Joaquin Phoenix and his wife Rooney Mara arrived. They prevented Pedro Pascal, also part of Ari Aster’s movie during the pandemic era, from taking any pictures. Dakota Johnson, soon to appear in Celine Song’s upcoming film “Materialists,” as well as pop sensation Charli XCX, German actor Matthias Schweighöfer, and “brat” queen Charli XCX were also present to celebrate Ramsay’s latest movie. Ali Abbasi, the director of last year’s Cannes Film Festival entry “The Apprentice,” featuring Sebastian Stan and Jeremy Strong, was there too, sporting a stylish cream suit that fit the Riviera atmosphere.
The extraordinary event hosted by the exceptional Danielle Pelland, acclaimed actress Sissy Spacek (known as Pattinson’s onscreen mother in “Die, My Love“), brought the festivities to a close.
At the fashionable Cannes venue Salama, a mix of pinot noir and pinot blanc from Bordeaux and Côtes-d’Auvergne were served, accompanied by platters filled with sushi, falafel, sliders, and more. The evening concluded with a variety of mini desserts such as chocolate fondants, creamy delights, and fresh fruit skewers. Guests were encouraged to sample the themed drinks, like the “Die, My Darling” made with tequila, Cointreau, and fresh lime juice, the “Feral Bloom” featuring Grey Goose Vodka, vanilla liquor, and espresso, or the “Love Is a Wound” blending Aperol, Prosecco, and Perrier.

Stepping onto Rue Florian in Cannes, I was greeted by a series of exclusive soirees that almost mimicked a catwalk for THR and Longines’ event. A saxophonist skillfully navigated the crowd, while in classic Cannes style, a flutist performed from atop a building to an enthusiastic gathering below. Salama offered a dramatic atmosphere with dim lighting that flowed seamlessly from the terrace to the bar and dance floor, and beyond lay tables where cast members could unwind and chat.
As I strolled down the red carpet at the festival, there was quite a stir about the man in the bird costume – some swore it was a turkey, others insisted it was a condor. But the suspense ended when organizers revealed that feathered fellow was none other than a character from Raphael Quenard’s Cannes Classics documentary titled “I Love Peru.” The film synopsis goes like this:
“Going through a tough time, Raphaël Quenard isolates himself from everyone around him. A mysterious vision compels him to travel to Peru. On this spiritual journey, he is accompanied by his friend Hugo David.

At the premiere of the movie “We Need To Talk About Kevin” (2011), Ezra Miller – who previously worked with Ramsay – was spotted driving quickly along the red carpet earlier in the night, seemingly showing his backing for the filmmaker. However, despite sporting a beret and long hair at the premiere, Miller was not spotted at THR’s afterparty.
