In the grand scheme of appearances within Deadpool & Wolverine, none caught me off guard quite like Channing Tatum’s portrayal of Gambit. Unlike veterans such as Wesley Snipes’ Blade and Jennifer Garner’s Elektra who had donned their respective roles before, Tatum was new to the Ragin’ Cajun character. The planned Gambit spinoff by Disney in 2019 never materialized after years of attempts at 20th Century Fox. Consequently, the 34th Marvel movie needed to create a fresh look for Tatum’s Gambit, abandoning his usual glowing eyes, but there was a compelling rationale behind this alteration in appearance.
