More recently, there has been talk about reviving “Charlie’s Angels” following Cameron Diaz’s return to acting in Netflix’s “Back In Action”. Whether it will come to fruition remains uncertain, but the idea of seeing Lucy Liu, Barrymore, and Diaz on a Zoom call together to honor Demi Moore’s performance in “The Substance” for Vanity Fair is exciting. During their chat, Lucy Liu expressed admiration for Moore’s Oscar-worthy portrayal in this role.

Based significantly on the 1957 legal drama “Perry Mason” (which was later remade), the original “Matlock” series features Andy Griffith portraying the principal character, Ben Matlock, an Atlanta-based defense attorney known for his cantankerous demeanor, fondness for hot dogs, and remarkable knack for exposing liars on the stand. With a fee of $100,000 (equivalent to around $275,000 in 2025), and an iconic gray Ford Crown Victoria, Matlock is recognized for his frugality and occasionally takes on pro bono cases when suitable circumstances arise.

The movie titled “Written and Directed by Nicholas Stoller” doesn’t quite measure up to some of your favorite films. The wedding and reception scenes seem stretched out for the sake of the film’s flow since in reality, such a long gap at night during a wedding is unlikely. Additionally, it overlooks the fact that Jenni (played by Geraldine Viswanathan), Ferrell’s character’s daughter, sports a black eye in one scene, which realistically wouldn’t heal in a day. Furthermore, some questionable camera work leaves much to be desired; for instance, a dark hallway scene where Ferrell’s character has an emotional outburst is poorly lit, leaving me puzzled as to why it couldn’t be better illuminated.

Despite these flaws, this rom-com could potentially buck the trend of underperforming in cinemas. So, if you’re browsing for something to watch at home, you might find worse options than this film.

Film director Nicholas Stoller, known for previous works like “Forgetting Sarah Marshall” and “Bros“, as well as the Apple TV+ series “Platonic“, which was both clever and heartwarming with Rose Byrne and Seth Rogen, has unfortunately delivered a new project on Prime Video that is unrelentingly crass and humorless. Despite an impressive cast including Will Ferrell, Reese Witherspoon, and a talented supporting group, this latest endeavor fails to rise above its vulgarity. When you witness Ferrell grappling with an unconvincingly fake alligator in a hotel room, it becomes strikingly clear that the movie has surpassed its peak moment – or in this case, the alligator.
