The Final Destination movie series originated in an intriguing manner. What eventually formed the core concept of the franchise began as a speculative script penned by Jefferey Reddick, intended for the television show The X-Files. Across the five films (and the sixth one set to release this year), the narrative revolves around a tight-knit group who manage to evade their supposed deaths after one member has a premonition that spares everyone. However, this fortunate escape sets in motion a series of mysterious and unforeseen events, ultimately resulting in the survivors meeting untimely, bizarre deaths due to fate’s relentless pursuit of them for cheating death initially intended for them.

Under the guidance of director Pete Travis (best known for his work on “28 Days Later” and “Civil War”) who also handled a significant portion of the directing duties for “Dredd”, Alex Garland, the screenwriter, brings us this film. Starring Karl Urban as Judge Dredd, joined by Olivia Thirlby, Lena Headey, Domnhall Gleeson, Wood Harris, and Langley Kirkwood. In this upcoming collaboration, both actors will be reuniting with their past partners in projects. Bullock previously worked with Bier on Netflix’s movie “Bird Box,” a horror adaptation of Josh Malerman’s novel, while Kidman teamed up with the director on HBO’s series “The Undoing” and the Netflix miniseries “The Perfect Couple.” Bier, who won an Oscar for best international feature film in 2010 with “In a Better World,” has also directed movies like “Things We Lost in the Fire” starring Halle Berry and Benicio del Toro. She is known as the primary creative mind behind the TV miniseries “The First Lady” and “The Night Manager.

The concept of a prequel that delves into the origins of the games is quite intriguing. A hypothetical series, perhaps titled “Squid Game Zero,” would undoubtedly attract a massive audience similar to the viewership garnered by the first two seasons of “Squid Game.” However, it’s puzzling as to why Netflix hasn’t yet approved this show. As for the expectations from a potential “Squid Game” prequel series, fans are eagerly awaiting engaging storylines that delve deeper into the background and motivations of the games, their creators, and perhaps even the first participants.
