Ariana Grande has spoken publicly about the debate surrounding her voice for the upcoming movie version of the musical Wicked, based on the Broadway show of the same title. In this production, Grande portrays Galinda Upland, who eventually transforms into Glinda, the Good Witch of the North from The Wizard of Oz. Throughout the story, she shifts from rival to friend and then enemy of Elphaba (played by Cynthia Erivo), who eventually becomes known as the Wicked Witch of the West. Given that Grande is one of the most popular pop stars globally, recognized for hits like “Break Free,” “Dangerous Woman,” and “No Tears Left to Cry,” among others, her casting seemed appropriate – however, fans have been rather vocal in their criticism, focusing on the changes in Grande’s voice.
