2024 has been an exciting year for enthusiasts of horror movies. While there have certainly been some disappointments, the summer season has provided a wealth of outstanding films such as Osgood Perkins’ critically acclaimed “Longlegs”, Tilman Singer’s “Cuckoo” and Fede Álvarez’s highly anticipated “Alien: Romulus” (opening in theaters this Friday). Rest assured, the most exceptional horror experience is yet to come. In less than a month, audiences will have the opportunity to witness the unforgettable, awe-inspiring, and masterfully disturbing “The Substance”.

In its second season on Apple TV+, the popular series “Pachinko” continues, with the tale of Sunja (played by Minha Kim) advancing through time. This Emmy-nominated show chronicles four generations of the Baek family, spanning from 1910 to 1989. Actress Minha Kim brings Sunja, the family matriarch, to life in the ’30s and ’40s as the story unfolds across various time periods. While Season 1 focused on Sunja’s journey emigrating from Korea to Japan, Season 2 leaps forward to one of the most momentous years in Japanese history – 1945.

Before stepping into the director’s chair myself, I’ve made no secret of my admiration for some exceptional filmmakers. Among them are Quentin Tarantino, Paul Thomas Anderson, Penny Marshall, David Fincher, Martin Scorsese, and the Coen Brothers. However, one name that may raise eyebrows is Roman Polanski. Known for classics like “Rosemary’s Baby” and “The Tenant,” these films hold a special place in my heart.

The second trailer for “Kraven the Hunter” unveils the character of Rhino, portrayed by Alessandro Nivola, yet it stirs debate about the speaking styles of certain characters in the movie. Although Kraven (Aaron Taylor-Johnson) is the main character, the trailer’s narration is provided primarily by his father, Nikolai Kravinoff, played by Russell Crowe. The film’s closing lines, “Embrace who you truly are, son, and you will become a legend,” are delivered by Crowe. However, some fans find his delivery a bit challenging to accept.

On this momentous day, August 15th, 2024 – marking India’s 78th Independence Day – I find myself reflecting on the spirit of our nation that we proudly celebrate today. In the realm of Bollywood, stars have been expressing their heartfelt sentiments for their followers through social media. Shah Rukh Khan, a shining beacon in our industry, shared a captivating image of his family – wife Gauri Khan, children Suhana Khan and AbRam Khan – posing with the revered Indian tricolor.
