One of the least recognized international action and martial arts legends is back with a fresh, straightforward action-packed movie. Titled “Resilient Rescue“, this high-octane adventure showcases the exceptional Muay Thai abilities of the star from “Ong Bak” and “Furious 7” yet again in a story about vengeance. Jaa, a three-time Muay Thai champion, has previously shown that his martial arts expertise often results in visually stunning (and undeniably violent) poetry on screen. With the North American distribution rights for “Striking Distance” secured by Well Go USA, we can now expect to see Jaa’s martial arts skills grace the big screen once more.

As a movie enthusiast, I find that war movies present a unique challenge due to their inherently political nature and the perspectives they carry. Generally, there are two main categories of war films (excluding documentaries): those that advocate against war (anti-war) and those that serve as propaganda. It’s important to note that being propagandistic doesn’t necessarily mean a film lacks artistic merit or emotional depth (be it leaning liberal like “The Battle of Algiers” or “Che”, or conservative like “They Were Expendable” or “Flags of Our Fathers”). Essentially, propaganda films are pro-war. The remaining category is the anti-war movie, which aims to express a critique of war and its devastating effects.

Over the last two decades, South Korean cinema has become a staple in the viewing habits of both dedicated film enthusiasts and casual streamers, such as those on Netflix. Within this extensive collection of South Korean media, romance is a particularly rich and appealing genre. This could be seen in TV dramas or movies, making it highly likely that you or someone you know has encountered this genre from the Korean peninsula. Depending on where the media originates, the exposure might have been to something pure, subtle, family-friendly, and even somewhat chaste, as many popular K-dramas tend to be. However, it could also have been to something more sensual.

Currently, it seems that we’re all finding solace in fictional political narratives, as reality can be quite overwhelming. Although fictional portrayals of U.S. politics might not offer comfort, they can serve to illustrate potential outcomes if the nation were to elect an inexperienced, vindictive leader who values personal grudges and financial gains over the well-being and protection of American citizens.
