Reality creates the scariest monsters. Villains from some of the best horror franchises, like Freddy Krueger, Norman Bates, and even Leatherface, have real-life origins, and they’re scary for the levels of absurdity added on top of the depth and uneasiness provided by their backstory truths. The most deadly threats just might be your next-door neighbors, and Kit Harington’sThe Beast Within highlights this concept of a monster lurking nearby with its ending.

Netflix’s upcoming releases in 2024 span various genres and subjects, but interestingly, many movies this week share a similarity: they all run approximately 90 minutes. There’s something about a 90-minute film that really appeals to me, and I’m thrilled to see Netflix producing more of them!

The 2000 movie titled The Patriot, directed by Roland Emmerich, features Mel Gibson as Benjamin Martin, a farmer in South Carolina from 1778, grieving the loss of his wife and raising seven children. As the American Revolutionary War looms, the story unfolds with Benjamin being reluctant to participate in war against the British. However, this stance conflicts with his eldest son, Gabriel, who is excited to join the battle.

Approximately one year has passed since actress Melissa Barrera faced an unexpected exit from the Scream franchise due to her social media comments about the Israel-Hamas conflict, yet her career momentum remains unabated. Her latest venture, Your Monster, has garnered rave reviews, and she’s now poised to delve into the Old West for the first time in the upcoming thriller In the Cradle of Granite. This film marks the English-language debut of director Ariel Escalante.
