That’s exactly what ‘The Science of Scare’ study, now in its 4th year of operation (as of 2023), is doing. They are gathering a sample of viewers and making them watch numerous horror movies to identify which ones cause the most discomfort. By monitoring heart rates, this study has assigned many horror films a ‘scare number,’ reflecting how much their viewers’ heart rates fluctuate.

At first glance, the movie Twisters appears incredibly profitable, earning a staggering $80.5 million in its opening weekend and consistently drawing a substantial audience since then. It has ignited numerous viral videos featuring the film’s cast, and its appeal spans across various demographics, underscoring its widespread popularity. However, despite seeming like it’s raking in money for Universal Pictures, this isn’t entirely accurate when considering the real costs involved.

To my astonishment, I found myself among those who were not taken aback by the underwhelming debut of the remake of “The Crow.” Although some might argue that it encountered intense competition at a challenging time in the box office and that its poor reviews gave it an unfair portrayal, even in the most favorable circumstances, the movie was still destined to fall short.
