2022 was an exceptional year for the horror genre, offering fans a chilling debut, “Smile,” from writer-director Parker Finn, inspired by his short film “Laura Hasn’t Slept.” Despite employing a well-worn device, it proved to be an effective horror movie that delves into themes of grief and trauma, largely due to the captivating portrayal of a psychiatrist who forms an unsettling bond with a malevolent entity, which reveals itself through its sinister grin, delivered masterfully by Sosie Bacon.

The team-up of Deadpool and Wolverine, played by Ryan Reynolds and Hugh Jackman respectively, marked the culmination of decades of character development for these iconic Marvel figures. However, an alternate ending, one that would have been much more somber, almost made it into the movie. In this original version, a key X-Men member was poised to meet his end. The climactic scene of this blockbuster hit, which shattered box office records, hinted at the demise of our titular heroes as they joined hands to the strains of “Like a Prayer.” Fortunately for fans, both Deadpool and Wolverine managed to survive their multiversal escapade in the final cut. Yet, the original ending of “Deadpool & Wolverine” would have been far more melancholic.
