After much anticipation, the moment has finally arrived: Hollywood’s latest legacy sequel, “Twisters,” is now open in theaters. Excitement has been building among fans, who can’t wait to see the spectacular show promised by the tornado-filled Super Bowl trailer. With a strong possibility of blockbuster numbers, the disaster movie is poised for an impressive start. In the meantime, one of the film’s stars, Glen Powell, is adding to the fun with clever puns as he celebrates the release of this year’s most anticipated new movie.

The year 2024 has been exceptional for lesser-known, quirky, and innovative movies. Although some entertaining blockbusters were released, such as “The Fall Guy,” “Twisters,” “Inside Out 2,” “Furiosa,” and “Dune: Part Two,” the standout films have been smaller indies, mid-budget productions like “Longlegs” and “Love Lies Bleeding,” or exceptional imports that don’t rely on a large Hollywood budget to shine. The unexpected highlight of 2024 has been an abundance of impressive Westerns (with one notable exception being a disappointing multi-part project). Additionally, there have been numerous unique horror films that have made this year one of the strongest for the genre in recent memory.

Shawn Levy, the film director, is moving on from working on the expensive MCU production featuring Deadpool and Wolverine, to begin shaping a new Star Wars film, marking his transition to another big-budget franchise.

Previously, prior to Amazon Prime Video’s presentation of “The Boys” with its romantic sausages, Herogasm, and exploding heads, there were plans underway for a movie adaptation featuring characters such as Billy Butcher, Hughie Campbell, and Homelander. Notable actors showed interest in the project, while Adam McKay, director of “The Other Guys” and “Anchorman,” was determined to bring it to life. However, Hollywood remained skeptical, doubting an R-rated, witty comic book film could succeed. (A friendly greeting from “Deadpool,” who’s grateful for the $782.6 million worth of chimichangas he enjoyed in 2016!)

Without a doubt, Stephenie Meyer’s “Twilight” series became literary sensations in the time period post-“Harry Potter.” These books sold in massive quantities and were ideal for movie adaptations. In 2008, the first “Twilight” film was released with tremendous financial success, earning over $400 million globally. The movies’ popularity led to Robert Pattinson’s career taking off significantly. However, not everyone held them in high regard back then. Some criticized their acting abilities while others believed they weren’t suitable for their respective roles. With the help of advanced technology, we can now see how “Twilight” might have appeared if the leading actors had been more faithful to the original castings.
