Chappell Roan and Olivia Rodrigo Producer Daniel Nigro Announces Label Partnership With UMG

Universal Music Group has teamed up with renowned producer Daniel Nigro, most recognized for his collaborations with artists like Olivia Rodrigo and Chappell Roan. The partnership sees Universal working directly with Nigro under his own record label, Amusement Records.

Nigro has gained significant recognition in the pop music industry due to his successful collaborations with artists like Roan and Rodrigo. He played a crucial role in producing both of Rodrigo’s albums, “Sour” and “Guts”, as well as Roan’s album “The Rise and Fall of a Midwest Princess” and singles such as “Good Luck, Babe!” and “The Giver”. Furthermore, he has also worked with artists including Caroline Polachek, Sky Ferreira, and Conan Gray. In February, Nigro was awarded the Producer of the Year Grammy; he was nominated for the same award the previous year as well.

Daniel personifies the kind of creative genius and business acumen that defines Universal Music Group (UMG),” UMG CEO Lucian Grainge stated. “I’m thrilled to begin this new phase in our collaborative journey, and I eagerly anticipate the innovative music and artists Daniel will contribute to our global community.

Initially, Nigro established Amusement Records specifically for Roan in 2023, with the label collaborating with UMG’s Island Records to launch the “Midwest Princess” album in September. Sales of this album began modestly and didn’t make it onto Billboard’s Top 200 Albums chart until April 2024. However, its popularity skyrocketed last year as Roan achieved global superstardom.

Roan is currently the sole artist represented by Amusement Entertainment, and “Rise and Fall” is the only album they have at present. However, a new arrangement has been made that will bring more artists to their label in the future. This partnership isn’t an acquisition, but it does grant Universal Music Group (UMG) the exclusive rights to any future signees from Amusement Entertainment. In turn, the Amusement roster is still able to collaborate with all of UMG’s subsidiary labels.

After six years of mostly working with artists signed to Universal Records, it was logical to solidify our bond further,” Nigro stated on Wednesday. “I envision Amusement Records as a creative space where artists can grow and evolve naturally while having access to all the essential resources for success. Additionally, I want the freedom to select the ideal team for each artist every time. I trust that Universal’s team shares this vision, and I am thrilled about what lies ahead.
