Chappell Roan Hits the Stage at Elton John’s Oscar Party in West Hollywood

Chappell Roan’s swift ascent to pop fame has been partially fueled by her smash hit “Pink Pony Club.” In a fascinating twist of life imitating art, Roan performed as the headliner at the 33rd Elton John AIDS Foundation Academy Awards viewing party held in West Hollywood on Sunday evening.

The Elton John AIDS Foundation’s annual fundraiser, which took place at West Hollywood Park and was organized by Elton John and David Furnish, is one of the most prominent events during Oscar weekend. This year’s event had co-hosts including Jean Smart, Sheryl Lee Ralph, Neil Patrick Harris, and David Burtka. The tent was filled with numerous well-known figures, many of whom stood up for a special tribute to Roan. Her performance began after the conclusion of the Academy Awards viewing party, paving the way for an energetic e.l.f. Beauty-sponsored afterparty.

Elton John personally introduced Roan, expressing his excitement by saying he “was absolutely thrilled” upon hearing her music. “I couldn’t wait to have her on my show,” he shared, “and she graced it with her presence. We had an interview, and I was smitten by her instantly. I became enamored with her as well as the album. Hopefully, we’ve remained friends since then, and I’ve been fortunate enough to keep in touch with her frequently.

He praised Roan as one of the most prominent global celebrities at the moment, justifiably so. Moreover, he admired her not just for her powerful vocal performances on stage, but also for her articulate and inspiring off-stage conversations.

Road twirled her way on to the stage and kicked off her set with “Coffee.”

“Can you play a song with a fucking beat,” she said pausing for effect.

Wow, I can hardly contain my excitement! Here we are, right in a dog park next to the Abbey. And guess what I’m about to immerse myself in? None other than “Naked in Manhattan”!

Following her triumph at the Grammy Awards where she was named Best New Artist, Roan seized her moment on the Crypto.com Arena stage to voice her concerns about record labels. Her powerful speech resonated throughout the music industry for weeks. “If I were to win a Grammy,” she declared, addressing the influential figures in music, “I would demand that labels and those reaping millions in profits from artists provide fair wages and healthcare, particularly to emerging artists.

She pointed out that she had been signed as a minor and subsequently let go, resulting in her lacking both work experience and healthcare. “It was incredibly disheartening to feel so dedicated to my craft and yet feel so deceived by the system, and it was dehumanizing not to receive any assistance,” she stated. “You’ve given us labels, but have we truly been understood?

More to come.
