This week, Chase made significant changes to their high-end Sapphire Reserve credit card, causing a stir in the world of premium credit cards.
The high-end credit card is utilizing influential figures in entertainment and cuisine to re-launch the product. Actors like Ben Stiller, producers such as Erin and Sara Foster, musician Ella Langley, and chef David Chang (who also hosts on Netflix) are some of the notable figures featured in this campaign. The campaign will blend personal stories, comedy, and exclusive benefits from the new card within its advertisements.
As a gamer, I appreciated the approach they took with this campaign. It was all about conversing and sharing tales, making it feel intimate yet maintaining a touch of humor, even a bit self-deprecating. I shared my thoughts on this with The Hollywood Reporter during an interview.
It helps, of course, to have a personal connection. And both Stiller and Chang fit that bill.
Chang states that any partnership must be centered around things he frequently uses in his daily life, reflecting his personal preferences. This is simply who he is, and it makes discussions natural since he’s been a long-term Chase Sapphire Reserve cardholder. He believes that the Sapphire program, which connects diners with restaurants, might be the best single card for this purpose.
Simultaneously, Stiller points out that the revamped card comes with benefits tailored to his interests, such as The New York Knicks and his Apple TV+ show “Severance.” Some of the privileges available through the Sapphire Reserve include an exclusive dining event in New York City, where cardholders can enjoy a meal on the court at Madison Square Garden, accompanied by Knicks legends. Given his frequent appearances courtside at MSG, Stiller is well-acquainted with such experiences; humorously referencing it in one of the promotional spots.
As a fan, I can’t help but feel thrilled about this exceptional opportunity we provide – something truly unique and hard to find elsewhere. Having personally experienced its charm, I can’t help but cherish it, and I thought, ‘What a cool thing it is to be able to share this experience with others!’ This perk is more than just an offering; it’s a chance to enrich the lives of our community in a way that’s truly special.
As a fan, I’m thrilled to share that the revamped card now extends credits for Apple TV+ and Apple Music to its members. This implies that shows like “Severance” can potentially reach a wider audience who haven’t had the chance to watch it yet. What an exciting development!
I’m thrilled about it since our show reaches more viewers. It’s an intriguing era, as the way we consume content has significantly transformed with streaming platforms. Stiller remarks that the complexity and congestion of the streaming market can make it tough for creatives to stand out. ‘It’s a struggle to expand the audience for shows that might not always be accessible due to the need to choose among streamers, which I get, it’s just a confusing new phase in terms of deciding what to watch.’
As someone who’s been deeply involved since the beginning, partnering with Apple has essentially shaped my career over the last five years, making this show my primary focus. So, when the opportunity arose to incorporate this partnership and expand my creative horizons, it felt like a seamless fit – an extension of what I’ve been doing, if you will. It’s exciting to think that this collaboration could potentially reach new audiences, and I can’t help but feel it was destined to be.
Chang, just like others, views things creatively. Although he initially garnered national recognition for his restaurants, he’s now a well-established figure in the media world, thanks to his Majordomo production studio.
Chang explains that he views both media and restaurants as similar because they both produce content, though it’s consumed differently. He believes that the values behind their work are consistent, focusing on education and providing value. He also mentions that their partnership with Chase aligns with these shared goals, as it encourages thinking about things from a new perspective and expanding one’s view of what is possible.
Furthermore, they agree that the benefits of the card align with personal interests such as traveling, savoring different cuisines, and exploring new experiences.
From a young age, aspiring to create grand, cinematic masterpieces similar to the ones I admired as a child, Stiller explains. Years later, he reflects on how his 2013 movie ‘The Secret Life of Walter Mitty’ has inspired others to embark on their own journeys and discover new places. He finds this bond between filmmaker and audience profoundly moving, describing it as deeply personal. For him, making films is a means of expressing his love for the natural world, an aspect he has always found captivating in movies.
In a different turn of phrase, Chang points out that the locations for finding excellent cuisine are evolving, using Japan as an illustration. There, top-notch eateries can be discovered hidden within subway systems, or perched on top of office towers.
He’s often emphasized that the future of dining will unfold in areas you might not typically think of, and he noted that Chase has played a significant role in this regard, particularly in one such location – airport lounges. The bank is launching Sapphire Lounges at airports nationwide and collaborating with chefs to design their menus.
Chang remarks that an airport lounge is like an oasis for multiple reasons, whether you’re on your way to a business meeting or have children, as it provides a place to reorganize oneself. He expresses dissatisfaction with the conditions outside the lounges and states that Chase’s expanding number of lounges in airports nationwide will be delightful, and this statement is genuine since it’s based on fact.
