As a dedicated follower of Bollywood, I find Chunky Panday‘s journey to be truly inspiring. From his early days in stardom during the 80s to his recent resurgence with films like Housefull, it’s clear that he has weathered the ups and downs of the industry with grace and determination.

In the 80s, I, Chunky Panday, rapidly gained fame by featuring in multi-starrer movies. However, as fresh faces emerged in Bollywood during the 90s, I stepped back into the shadows of the limelight. More recently, I’ve shared my reasons for deciding to return to acting and take on roles like those in Akshay Kumar’s Housefull, marking a distinct shift from my earlier career choices – essentially, redefining myself for this new phase in my acting journey.

In a recent chat with Curly Tales, Chunky Panday reminisced about the time when actors like Aamir Khan, Salman Khan, and Shah Rukh Khan made their debut in Bollywood, causing a significant shift in the Hindi film industry. This change, he admitted, led to a decline in his own popularity as he was primarily involved in multi-starrer films. Reflecting on this period, he humorously commented, “My initial success span only lasted for a year.

Initially, he ventured into filmmaking in Bangladesh and achieved great recognition. Upon his return to Hindi cinema, a particular event prompted a shift in his perspective, leading him to aim at captivating the younger audience instead.

Reflecting on this, he explained, “A young lad once inquired if I was truly a hero. I suggested he consult his mother for the answer. Later, I understood that I needed to capture the boy’s affection through my movies. I aimed to attract children. This is why I produced films such as Housefull and so on…

Instead of sticking with serious roles, it was delightful for viewers to witness Panday in a fresh comedic persona, a character that persisted throughout the Housefull sequels and left an indelible impression on audiences.

Before becoming famous in Bollywood, Panday wasn’t used to dealing with large amounts of money. Back then, an actor’s success was determined by the number of films they made, so they didn’t know how to slow down their work pace and pick suitable scripts, which is common practice today. However, he acknowledged that other actors were savvy in this area and managed to make it big despite the challenges.

Regardless of the financial hardships and various twists and turns, the actor has genuinely relished his experience within the film industry and harbors no regrets about it. He firmly believes that actors should set aside their ego and embrace a lack of shame to achieve success in this field.

In the year 1996, Chunky found himself in a tough spot financially as some of his funds were tied up in a property transaction. He recalled a time when he hosted a party but couldn’t afford to buy drinks for it, forcing him to reach out to a friend for assistance.

In terms of his professional life, Chunky Panday has recently appeared in Anupam Kher’s film titled Vijay 69. At the moment, he is busy with the filming of Sajid Nadiadwala’s highly anticipated Housefull 5. This upcoming project features a star-studded cast that includes Fardeen Khan, Akshay Kumar, Riteish Deshmukh, and Abhishek Bachchan, among others.
