Warning! The Following Contains Spoilers From Cobra Kai Season 6 Part 3.
Ralph Macchio delights as Daniel LaRusso reminisces about a past event from The Karate Kid (1984), during the debatable final scene of Cobra Kai Season 6 Part 3. Meanwhile, Johnny Lawrence (William Zabka) steps away to attend to personal matters in the restroom, prompting Daniel’s thoughts to return to when he managed to catch a fly with chopsticks, an achievement that left even Mr. Miyagi (Pat Morita) impressed.
In the flashback, Miyagi dismissed “beginner’s luck.” Yet, in the current storyline, Daniel struggles to recreate his youthful success as Johnny intervenes and crushes the insect before Daniel can trap it with chopsticks. Macchio commented on the ending’s reference to the 1984 movie during an interview with Tudum.
I’m quite fond of how they finish things off here. It reminds me of a memorable scene from the first Karate Kid film. I genuinely appreciate this creative decision. When you find yourself immersed in a brief flashback from The Karate Kid movie, and then return to the present, it has such an iconic Cobra Kai feel.”
“I adore the way they conclude things. It’s strikingly similar to a well-known scene from the original Karate Kid film. I truly admire that artistic decision. When you get caught up in a momentary flashback from The Karate Kid movie, and then emerge from it, it carries such a classic Cobra Kai vibe.
For some fans, the debate over the final scene centers around the perception that valuable screen time is spent on the showrunners of Cobra Kai, Josh Heald and Jon Hurwitz, who make appearances in the restaurant. Instead of introducing a surprise return of a cherished Karate Kid character absent in Season 6 Part 3, such as Kumiko (Tamlyn Tomita), Julie Pierce (Hilary Swank), or Mike Barnes (Sean Kanan), viewers are left with Heald and Hurwitz discussing an irrelevant Back to the Future project.
‘Cobra Kai’ Showrunners Dish About Show’s Controversial Final Scene
It’s disappointing that beloved Karate Kid characters didn’t join Daniel (Macchio) and Johnny (Zabka) for lunch during the final scene of Cobra Kai Season 6 Part 3, but it seems that the unneeded discussion about Back to the Future between showrunners Josh Heald and Jon Hurwitz was an extra time-waster. Regrettably, this chat won’t lead to anything significant, as they were merely enjoying themselves instead of adding more nostalgia to what could have been a more satisfying conclusion for the Netflix series. Hurwitz shared these insights in an interview with People, stating that it was just them “having fun.
We’re simply enjoying ourselves. The Back to the Future series is something highly protected, and rightly so. If they consider producing a new series, count us in.
Instead of incorporating a “Back to the Future” reference that some viewers might not understand or appreciate, why not use that opportunity to delve deeper into the teased “Cobra Kai” spinoff featuring Hawk and Demetri? Additionally, since the fates of Terry Silver and John Kreese were left unresolved in Season 6’s Episode 15, it could have been more engaging for fans if Daniel was absent from the restaurant scene and we were given another chance to reconnect with Johnny and his mentor following Kreese’s redemption. Looking back, it appears that the purpose of the final conversation between Johnny and Daniel was explained later by co-showrunner Josh Heald in an interview with Tudum.
As a devoted movie enthusiast, if only I could step into the world of Johnny and Daniel for just another day, to offer them a reassuring wink that all will be well. These two characters, destined to become friends, will share moments both peculiar and amusing – like when Johnny grapples with paying his tax bill, leaving Daniel exasperated as he watches him continue to tap away at soft objects with a hammer.
They’re simply the kind of people they are. They’ll inevitably annoy each other, yet they’ll continue to cherish this mutual disdain. Our goal was to capture a heartwarming moment that wasn’t tied to any external factors, but rather focused on these two characters who had harbored such animosity towards one another for so long, now finding enjoyment in sharing a meal together.
As a movie enthusiast, I can’t help but share that you’re in for a treat! The long-awaited Season 6 Part 3 of “Cobra Kai” is now streaming exclusively on Netflix. Even though the series seems to have bid adieu for now, the karate-chopping journey continues for none other than Ralph Macchio this summer. In the upcoming film “Karate Kid: Legends,” Daniel LaRusso joins forces with Mr. Han, played by Jackie Chan, to mentor a new student, Li (Ben Wang). Catch them in action on the big screen starting May 30!
