Cozy Grove: Camp Spirit review – “More Spirits to Help!”

  • A part of the Netflix Gaming catalogue
  • New bears, with new stories
  • Daily tasks to complete

As a seasoned gamer who’s seen it all, from the pixelated dawn of gaming to the vibrant digital landscapes of today, I must admit that Cozy Grove: Camp Spirit has managed to carve out a unique niche for itself in my ever-expanding gaming library. Having dabbled with its predecessor on Apple Arcade, I was intrigued by the prospect of a Netflix Gaming spin-off, and let me tell you, it didn’t disappoint!

In a nutshell, “Cozy Grove: Camp Spirit” serves as a follow-up to the initial game titled “Cozy Grove.” Both games revolve around assuming the role of a Spirit Scout, whose mission is to facilitate comfort among bear creatures within their environment and aid them in finding tranquility.

Previously, Cozy Grove was accessible only through Apple Arcade, but now you can enjoy Cozy Grove: Camp Spirit by signing into Netflix Gaming. All you need is an active Netflix account to immerse yourself in this charming game. Its design and objective encourage players to spend brief periods daily, engaging with the game before resuming their regular routines.

In Cozy Grove: Camp Spirit, your adventure begins with a unique twist; you assume the role of a young Spirit Scout who was on a group trip when your bus met with an accident. Unfortunately, you can’t locate any of the other scouts, but instead of panicking, you decide to make the best out of this situation by assisting the island you’ve found yourself on. This mystical island is inhabited by bear spirits that require aid and color that needs to be reintroduced. While it’s not necessary to have played the first game to enjoy the second one, there are some nods to the original storyline.

This new island has all new bears, easier quests (in my opinion), and more to do each day. One of my main greavences was the fact that the game had only a small amount of play before you were done for the day and didn’t have anything to do. You do need to wait until the next day in your real life before more story and quests appear, but in Cozy Grove: Camp Spirit, this seems better balanced and you are able to progress the stories of these bears much faster.
Along with fufilling these quests, you can gather and use tools to collect items. A shovel is used to dig up holes, you get a net to catch bugs and get a water squirter to help clean up stuff that’s gotten dirty. The imps seem to really like when you clean stuff up, which is cute. There are sometimes some of the scouts that you road the bus with, dotted around the camp, that you can say hello to as well. This makes the area feel less lonely and more full of things to do.

Gathering various items and placing them into a small bonfire on a wardrobe will earn you rewards and keep track of all the items you discover. You can also customize your campsite, buy items, and adopt pet birds to feed. It seems like there’s plenty to do each day, with your camp’s fire serving as a reminder to take breaks now and then.
