Creed Spinoff Could Finally Address Apollo’s Hidden Family Plot Hole

The upcoming “Delphi” spin-off of “Creed,” which debuted in 2015 as a continuation of the “Rocky” series, offers a chance to fill a significant gap left by the movies. With nine years passing since the last movie, “Creed” launched its own franchise with Michael B. Jordan as Adonis Creed, and Jordan went on to direct his first feature film in “Creed III.” Since then, it’s been revealed that various spin-off projects are underway, including comic books, an anime, and a TV series.

The new series titled Delphi marks its debut as a live-action spinoff and is set within the Delphi Boxing Academy, where Apollo (Carl Weathers) and Adonis Creed honed their skills. Marco Ramirez, known for his work on The Defenders, will serve as the showrunner, with Jordan acting as an executive producer. The show will delve into the lives of other aspiring boxers who are also undergoing training at this gym. No cast members have been revealed yet, and it remains unclear if Jordan will reprise his role as Adonis. It’s undecided at this point whether Jordan will appear as Adonis in the series. However, the show offers a chance to explore aspects that the Creed films have only briefly hinted at.

Apollo Has Two Other Children

The TV Show Can Fully Introduce Them

In the Rocky series of films, it is depicted that Apollo Creed has two kids with his wife, Mary Anne. The character Adonis doesn’t appear until the movie Creed. Apollo’s children with Mary Anne are not shown much, appearing only in quick scenes around their home. Their names are never revealed, but these occasional glimpses of Apollo’s family life hint at his role as a father. After Apollo’s demise in Rocky IV, Adonis is taken in by Mary Anne and brought up alongside her other children.

In the movie “Creed III,” Apollo’s other children are briefly mentioned, hinting that Adonis isn’t particularly close to them. However, in a potential spin-off like “Delphi,” we could delve deeper into their backstory and integrate them more fully into the world. If Adonis doesn’t feature prominently or only makes a brief appearance, these characters could be developed anew. Given that the series is set at Apollo’s old training gym, it seems logical for his other children to have some ties to their father’s past history.

The Creed Movies Almost Entirely Ignoring Them Is A Weird Choice

Their Absence Has Been Noteable

In the entirety of the “Creed” trilogy, Mary Anne never mentions her children. This is rather unusual, given that she has passed away and there’s no hint in the movies that they were present at her funeral. While it could be argued that they might have been there, and perhaps “Creed III” was too busy to delve into another storyline, it still seems like an odd decision.

In the revamped franchise, Adonis is now the main character, which makes sense. But it’s intriguing that his siblings, who share the Creed name and wealth, haven’t appeared on screen yet. With their resources and connections, they could potentially be key players in the upcoming series – perhaps as heroes or villains. Introducing them would also strengthen the link to the Creed legacy within the storyline.

In the ever-growing world of the Creed series, it’s important to mention that additional offspring of Apollo made an appearance in the comic book sequel titled “Creed: The Next Round”, set a decade after the events of “Creed III”. Michael B. Jordan played a significant role as the creative director for this comic, but whether or not it remains canon will depend on other elements within the franchise. For the first time, these characters are given names in the comics: Alexander and Artemis.

As the “Creed” films continue to focus solely on Apollo’s offspring, the omission of his other children becomes increasingly noticeable. By introducing Delphi into the narrative, the franchise could finally tackle the long-standing subplot and provide closure that has been missing from these movies for a significant amount of time.
