As a fervent admirer, I’m thrilled to share that the prequel series of Peacock’s “Friday the 13th,” titled “Crystal Lake,” has made a significant stride with the official announcement of Linda Cardellini, known for her roles in “Mad Men” and “Dead to Me,” stepping into the character of Pamela Voorhees, the devoted mother of the notorious machete-wielding slasher Jason Voorhees.
The storyline of the show remains largely unknown, but it’s clear that it will be set prior to the 1980 movie which initiated the horror series and concluded with Pamela (Betsy Palmer) being decapitated by Alice (Adrienne King). Notably, the title alludes to the summer camp where Pamela, and subsequently her son wearing a hockey mask, brutally murder numerous sexually active teenagers in various imaginative manners.

Brad Caleb Kane (also known as “It: Welcome to Derry, Tokyo Vice”) is taking on the roles of showrunner, creator, writer, and executive producer for the project titled “Crystal Lake”. This production comes from the renowned A24 banner, and Marc Toberoff, Victor Miller, Rob Barsamian, and Stuart Manashil are also serving as executive producers.
Since the time I first saw Jason Voorhees pop out a man’s eyeball from its socket (in stunning 3D!) when I was just eight years old, I have always felt that my creative journey would eventually intersect with “The Man Behind The Mask“. My childhood was deeply influenced by the era of slasher films, and none were more defining in this genre than “Friday The 13th“. I am thrilled beyond words for the chance to add a new chapter to this legendary series, especially since I’ll be collaborating with bold partners like Peacock and A24.
